fog, cooler so far

It's a Tuesday do there's youth camp across the street at the church grounds....but it doesn't look very busy yet today.....chicken last night with mushrooms in brown rice, corn-on-the-cob.....almost out of bread, but did have enough left for poached egg on toast breakfast.....maybe the grocery ad will be in the mail today....or in the e-mail maybe......well, probably.....

monday

went to the library, and made sure to roll up the car windows when I got back...chance of thunderstorms later....for lunch had a chicken leg.....a chunk of swiss cheese, two greek peppers, and some kettle chips.I've got more drumsticks for suppers and lunch, before the next shopping trip.....AC is running to fight the sticky, glad that does work.....Saw a good show on PBS about hiking the Great Divide, and another English Manor house hour, and then Masterpiece Mystery before bed......I could lie down and nap now I bet....

paper said 42% chance of rain today

at 8:30 it started raining....should stay in the 80s today and for a few more days, maybe.....this constant humidity for weeks on end makes it hard to put a shirt on....the fabric wants to stick to your skin, instead of just sliding on like you are used to in a normal world.....I should vacuum, and at least sweep the kitchen if not get it mopped too....but it might be too humid to mop, the floor would never dry, even with the ceiling fan blowing on it.....

it was fairly cool when I headed out for Walmart

but warm and sticky again by the time I got back.....nothing much in the mail....well there hardly ever is....tuna sandwich lunch in a bit....with a glass of chilled chablis...was oatmeal breakfast today....two more steak-and-fries suppers left, then I've got chicken drumsticks....I'll cook those all at once, so I don't have to make a mess every evening over the weekend....well, there's only two evenings in a weekend, huh? Bought a new walking cane this morning....musta left my old one in a store, done that before.....ten bucks for a new metal model....been playing internet radio in the afternoons....Acid Flashback-Psychedeeelic Mindtrip stuff.....and in the evenings switch the TV between BBC World News Tonight and PBS channels.....no commercial television, except the local five O' clock news......got some strange things cleaned out of the fridge and taken out to the trash before I left the house this morning......

Thursday?

looks fairly cool outside yet....some overcast....thinking of a trip to the drugstore, CVS, in the same center as the grocery store....maybe find some cortisone or something....sort of an itchy heat rash or whatever on my neck where shirt collars touch.....need some new rub for my lumbar too....and that kind of pre-brush foaming mouthwash......these things might be a little cheaper at Walmart, but I don't feel like driving all the way over there this morning.....steak and fries and fresh corn last night for supper, same today I suppose.....

the show about Buddha was good

and so was the show about finding his bones....right now I'm fixing to head out grocery shopping....sirloin steak is featured in the store flyer...and if they have chicken salad out in the deli section, that can be for lunch sandwiches this coming week.....90s again today, but the air has been drier, with some west wind too.....paid the June electric bill....$122.....well, late June and two weeks of July.....

but still flash-flood watch in the mountains.....Wednesday is grocery day again already....no ideas yet for meals....maybe a meatloaf? Continues in the 90s looks like....I'm going to have a hefty electric bill when it gets here......but at least with the AC on you can get a breath of cool dry air......instead of swamp miasma....been sleeping fairly well with the bedroom ceiling fan on slow.....gets down around 70 in the small hours of the night.....the Buddha is on PBS this evening, hope by then I still remember that.....

storm before bed again

with thunder and other noises....I thought maybe I had heard another big branch falling off the oak, but I don't see anything like that in the light of day.....in the paper it says it rained two inches in one hour Sunday afternoon in Charleston, resulting in flooded streets in the low-lying parts of town....they had to use a rubber raft to get some lady out of her car and get her to the hospital.....didn't notice any reports of storm damage locally.....

I watched Escape from New York last night....a couple nights ago watched Escape from L.A......NY was free on Prime, LA free on Netflix Escape from Clinton probably would not attract major stars.....easy to escape from Clinton, go a mile or two in any direction and you are lost in the woods....might make a bacon and egg sandwich for lunch, another avocado burger for supper....saw the Braves blow a 4 run lead yesterday....but nothing on today but golf.....my right forearm is itching....looks like spider bites to me....I have a history of those.....where-ever I have lived.....lightning flashes as I went to sleep last night, but it doesn't look like it rained much, if at all....lawn was pretty dry when I went out to pick up the Sunday paper.....need to take the trash can to the curb some time today.....talked to Nick and Dan on the Ipad yesterday afternoon.....not much news I don't suppose really.....

better today so far

I was able to make a quick shopping run in 70 degree weather.....because it's still overcast this morning.....it was heat index 95 yesterday afternoon when I thought about going out for a couple things I needed....glad I waited 'til today.....of course more ice was one of the things.....and a loaf of bread....got oat-nut this time.....my bacon-avocado burgers are coming out OK.....more of those this weekend....that precooked bacon you microwave is pretty trick....tastes good, and most of the grease is already gone seems like.....never tried it before....regular bacon makes a mess and is bad for you....haven't had any of that in the fridge in probably ten years.....used to eat it every day....sometimes a slice wanted to stick to the rest, so you would just get half a slice peeled off, or it would shred....no rain the last couple days, but some places around the state are still flooded from the long wet spell....

the newspaper was there when I looked out the front door after breakfast

good thing I didn't have to go very far to get it....high heat/humidity continue....I feel OK as long as I stay in the air-conditioning.....otherwise this is dangerous conditions for old folk....I've got stuff to make bacon-avocado-swiss burgers....and potato chips....I don't usually have any chips in the house, but Classic Lay's were two for one the other day.....yesterday lunch was just wine and cheese, the last of the Colby....and some crackers.....I don't think I really need to go out today, play it safe and avoid the heat.....

Should start coming tomorrow....meanwhile, the iPad version works well....it's all actually cheaper than the newsstand price I have been paying at the minimart.......

hope today is better than yesterday

the main disaster yesterday was my car breaking down....so today I get to sit and wait for the shop to call with whatever news they have to tell me....I just cannot afford to buy another vehicle...so I'm trying to keep the old one running a while longer....at least I can get in and out of it....a small car just would not do for me....I might get into it one time and then be stuck there forever.....unless I could somehow roll out of it onto the ground, but that exit method might be painful and harmful.....huge thunder storm last night around dark.....more flooding and trees down in the Upstate....probably do the same again this evening, since there will be plenty more heat and moisture conditions to feed thunderheads.....my electricity stayed on last night, hope it doesn't go out....I need the AC, or at least the fans.....

need cool meals

I guess everybody in the country right now thinks it's too hot in the kitchen to cook much.....I know I do.....I hope the electricity grid survives the demands through this week......100% humid this morning, but not too bad 77 degrees F. But I woke up feeling like somebody had put me through the heavy duty cycle in a washing machine and then tried to tumble me dry for an hour or so, but I came out still damp.....I'm not walking or working outside anymore for a while at least....and I'm being as careful as I can in the house, or walking to the car....I do need to go in the grocery store today.....but it will be air-conditioned enough there I hope.....

Monday afternoon more storms were here

But Tuesday morning has been mostly clear.....on the news last night they showed where cousin Ricky works....the Clemson Dairy Farm....it was totally flooded.... The cows had a banner "eat more fish".....I took a shower this morning after reading the paper....carefully...don't want to slip in the bathroom and become another senior statistic....the city did pick up that big oak branch from the curb a little while ago, so that's done with....

feel beat up

all I did was the laundry....and "picked up" inside the house, but muscle aches this morning....there's nobody but me here to blame for what needed picking up....and nobody else to notice the mess either.....misting on the windshield this morning....enough for folks to be driving with lights on....might get up to triple digit heat index later this week....Thursday or so....cool so far today....but if the clouds burn off it will end up steaming again in the afternoon, when there will be a 30% chance of thunderstorms....had a thin fried pork chop and one egg over easy for Sunday supper....and since I forgot to do Sunday french toast and sausage breakfast yesterday, I fixed that this morning instead.....watched another PBS show about stately British country homes last night, before Endeavor, which took me to a 10:30 bedtime.....

still damp

one of these days I expect to mildew.....storm damage mentioned in the paper....house burns down after being struck by lightning....another house cut in half by a falling oak....cars washed off the road and into the woods....pick-up truck hits a tree fallen across the highway....driver dies.....well, most of the stormy weather is clearing out they say, giving way to "a more normal Summer pattern".....high heat and humidity....going to be in the 90s instead of the 80s like it has been during the rains....in the first 6 months, we've had a whole year worth of rain....I don't even feel like eating much....that just heats up your metabolism....more sweating.....

heavier rain expected again in the afternoon.....some flooding in the Upstate yesterday, but not right here.....had steak and onions with beans for supper....don't know what's for lunch, maybe grilled cheese sandwich, or fried egg sandwich......I can look in the sports section and see if there's a baseball game on a station I get today.....cool enough to leave the AC off all day I hope....

And now a thunderstorm looks to be moving in from the north.....so heat and rain today too.....I'm going to cook steak and onions with beans as a side.....Saturday supper can be pork chop with sauerkraut and apple....had a Ballpark frank on cheese toast for lunch.....got Cabernet at Walmart....got something done in the yard this morning, but not as much as I wanted ......shifted a large fallen oak branch to the curb using a five foot piece of two by four as a lever....the earth as the fulcrum.....

but more rain is predicted, the area remains under flood watch....but the tropical system that they were saying might get here next week has fallen apart, do maybe this depressing dampness will end one day.....I'm still dragged out and confused feeling.....been forgetful for perhaps three weeks now.....can't find where I've left things, etc....just too damn old is what it boils down to I'm afraid.....

some major storming going on last night

as I was going to bed.....but the thunder moved on off and I slept OK after a bit.....in some places there was flood damage.....a creek got into yards, and a bridge or two got damaged the flood gates are open at Lake Hartwell for the first time since 1964.....and it might do it all again late today....and there is a tropical storm brewing that might dump yet more rain here next week......well, grocery day, better get moving....

Outside feels like 93.....inside it's about 83.... I'm stayin inside for a while

Got some things done today....windshield wiper blades replaced, vapor lock problem attacked with Marvel Mystery Oil...seems to be working so far .....the guy at the auto parts says he is hearing complaints of bad gas in town....and the ethanol gas is going to boil faster than real gas, what with the extra alcohol.....did get around to mopping the kitchen, but am still avoiding working out in the heat....afraid of just falling. ... over from the heat and humidity.....got the fixings for root beer floats....been years since I had one of those, and it sounded good in this weather.....got frozen lasagna for supper....

now they say this wet heat

is here for another week....it's about to wipe me out......I made sausage and large pasta shells with alfredo sauce and chopped onion for Sunday supper, with heart of lettuce salad......might eat leftovers today.....watched PBS last night......listened to Acid Flashback in the afternoon...good stuff

maybe not as wet today

but outside the grass and shrubs are still soaked and dripping.....a couple days ago I closed all the windows and ran air-conditioning long enough to condition a few points of humidity out of the inside air.....leaving windows tightly closed, it remains dryer and more comfortable......lost wi-fi there for a minute...had to go click the router off and on to reset it.....heard a transformer blow with a distant "crump".....that's been happening almost daily in these weather conditions.....next time I go to watch roku, I'll have to run the set-up to reconnect I suppose......watched Braves-Phillies last night, 'til close to midnight.....used up the rib-eye, with potato salad and "southern pit BBQ style beans" as the veggie sides......this afternoon I can fix sausage and shells, with maybe heart-of-lettuce with blue cheese veggie-wise.....it might start raining again any time they predict.....I got the trash out of the kitchen, but still need to get it out to the curb......and I need to mop the kitchen floor.....

the "deep moisture" has moved West of here

so it's not raining, for a change.....but still 94% humidity.....heat index 86.....finished off the ribs OK yesterday....was still plenty of meat on 'em for a hearty meal.....so back to rib-eye platter later today.....honey smoked turkey breast on pumpernickel with lettuce and mayo was Friday lunch.....Sat. lunch will be brat mit kraut on a whole wheat bun.......the watermelon .....I ate some yesterday sitting out front on the porch.....tasty and refreshing....have some left for another time too.....Brian's birthday today .....41 I calculate.....might see him on GTM at one my time....David probably won't be able to connect, unless they link up with an NC cousin.....I hope they are doing alright....the last three or four days the weather service has been warning campers out of the mountains.....flash floods, landslides on roads and trails, possible falling trees.....

was raining during the fireworks

but some were still going off right around here, and you could hear that the show on the other side of town was still going on.....at Whitten Center, the State Disability home......thunder this morning early, and more rain....it's good for the corn, but bad for wheat, watermelons, and cotton.....good for the trees......and cow pasture......I have some watermelon to eat, didn't get around to it on the 4th.....need to vacuum......still not feeling so good.....weak and wobbly.....still under flash flood watch through tonight.......had steak, potato salad, and corn last night, I can have the other rib meal this evening.....it will all microwave up OK I'm sure......

was coming down in buckets

the weatherman yesterday was warning that it could be at the rate of 2" an hour.....not raining at the moment.....but was in the night and right after dawn.....four day Fourth holiday food supply....ribs, baking potato, potato salad, brats, kraut, lettuce, corn-on-the-cob, rib-eye, watermelon, salt and vinegar chips.....guess that's about it.....already did half the ribs yesterday.....salt and vinegar ribs, with oregano-cumin rub on one side, and mixed generic sauce after turning over ......mixed yellow and red store brand bottles......

some 4th of July events

have already been cancelled....in anticipation of thunderstorms tomorrow......I'm cooking in the kitchen, so the weather won't bother my plans.....checking the grocery ads, I'm thinking rib-eye, corn-on-the-cob, and maybe potato salad.....I'll look in the deli case for potato-egg salad, not sure if my regular store offers that or not, I used to find that in Escondido.....rained yesterday afternoon quite a bit.....probably do it again later today.....I'll get a can of sauerkraut to kick my brat lunches up a notch.....last night finished off romaine lettuce and beets.....one more serving left of BB&R, after a bowl with my salad.....[black beans and rice]   maybe do simple shells and sausage for this week's casserole option......

flash flood watch

through Wednesday night.....a high over the Atlantic is pushing the moisture flow inland ......for Monday supper I had sweet potato, fresh corn, and heated-up deli fried chicken.....lunch was a brat on a whole wheat bun with stoneground mustard and chopped onion.....today lunch can be turkey and jack cheese on pumpernickel, with a little mayo.....it rained a bit around sun-up, but I'm going to go check out how wet the back lawn looks....if it's not too soaked I might try running the mower....it's 72, overcast, and some cool wind out right now.....

very humid air, lots of rain late Sunday

was still raining at midnight......when the air is so full of water vapor, it's harder to get oxygen, so you feel kinda beat......I do anyway.....going to be "soaking weather " for the next few days too, they say.....the rain does keep it cooler, though.....can just run ceiling fans for comfort, leave the AC turned off.....I've two Civil War books and a strange Sci-Fi book from the library going all at once, plus something on kindle too......I'm out of oatmeal, so I'll go get some more.....
