Easter eggs

none in this house.....but yesterday as I was coming back from my walk through downtown I saw the church grounds across from my house all covered with the plastic eggs.....so I went in and took off my jacket and went and got the iPad and went out to take a picture of the lawn and eggs.....but I was too late....they had let the kids loose and it was like a swarm of locusts or something.....the eggs all disappeared before I could get a picture....some showers came through just before dawn this morning, so maybe there were puddles for the sunrise services outdoors.....but it was dry and not really cold much on my early walk.....a few more sprinkles just went through a couple of minutes ago too.....might get up to 70 today, more like Spring weather.....I had Cotton Country Buttermilk Cornbread Mix....and I put an egg in it to make Southern Egg Cornbread as they called it on the instructions.....tasty stuff, with black-eyed peas cooked with diced ham, onion, garlic, spinach greens.....enough leftover for another day.....had a ham and swiss on rye Saturday lunch with pickle slices and mustard and mayo.....around ten last night it was still warm enough to sit out on the porch.....

not freezing

the string of frost mornings has ended, heater did not go on during the night.....town is empty looking this weekend, folks must be gone visiting somewhere else for Easter.....well, it's always pretty quiet around here Saturday mornings.....they've had big crowds across the street at the church for their Easter Pageant......lots of cars over there the last two evenings anyway.....they do it tonight too I think.....watched the Fighting Ducks defeat last night, with the sound off and Depeche Mode playing on the stereo.....didn't get much reading done yesterday, maybe an hour and a half altogether.....took a nap and porch-sat for some of the afternoon.....had sweet tater, green salad, and pan-fried ham slice with honey mustard for supper.....today I might bake the cornbread and cook some ham with black eyed peas.....I guess I can go walk over downtown way this morning.....the furniture store a couple blocks from here is going out of business in April.....selling off their remaining inventory cheap looks like......

Friday, March 29, 2013

good friday

no traffic on the early walk, schools and the City are closed .....frosty, clear......watched a japanese western last night, looked like it was filmed in CA and AZ maybe......might make grilled ham and swiss on rye for lunch.....something with ham for supper.....it got up warm enough yesterday  to catch some sunshine on the porch......and to take a nap with sun coming in on the sofa too for a while.....might run the vacuum today......and if this cold spell does actually let up next week I'll have to start doing yard work I guess.....was an article in the paper this morning about crowds expected at the beach this weekend, and on into the week since school is out.....I won't go near the Interstate myself....

Canadian Spring

that's what they are calling it around here.....clear, calm, 28F at sunrise.....I glazed the ham with apple cider vinegar and BBQ sauce.....three hours at 325 then let it sit 20 minutes.....delicious, and a lot of meat.....so ham and swiss on rye for lunch for a while.....today I might fix french bread pizza and spinach salad, just because there are going to be plenty of ham suppers soon.....been walking the park after lunch still, since the mornings are so chilly......watched another western movie last night, and then read sci-fi until I was ready to go to bed at ten.....Easter morning here is predicted to be fog and chilly with 50% chance of rain......the ski resorts in the local mountains are staying open through Easter weekend.....I think the Oregon basketball game is on a station I get tonight.....

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

another hard frost

but the wind has let up anyway.....already went grocery shopping.....got a 7 lb. ham for $8 something.....I guess I'll go ahead and heat that up this afternoon and get started on it.....got black-eyed peas and cornbread to have with ham.....and red beans and rice.....and sweet taters.....spinach greens were on sale.....got seeded rye this week.....got swiss cheese.....can have ham sandwich lunches.....paid to watch The Hobbit last night, $4 I think.....nice scenery anyway.....going to check out the Clinton paper now.....

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Yup

I was just getting back from a walk through the park in the bright cold before lunch when the letter carrier came by with the weekly ads and the City utility bill....so I've got that bill and the DSL bill punched in for April Fool's Day pay......and of course the grocery ad features Easter ham, etc.....so maybe some ham and sweet taters and some kind of salad fixings for my Sunday.....don't know about other meals yet....hamburgers?  some taco nites?    Other ham meals too....

very cold

that's what the newspaper says for the "wake-up weather".....they got that right.....23 windchill when I went out the door at sunrise....that'll wake you up.....I got some good library books yesterday I think, by authors I've liked before anyway.....wind was blowing like mad when I drove over there, street signs bending over, stuff flying through the air.....on the five o'clock news the windchill for Laurens was 39.....they were showing the blowing snow up in NC on the traffic segment.....I might try to do something like eggs and grits with the last piece of cubed steak for supper, for a little variety....should get the grocery store ad today in the mail, and maybe the City bill, since it's about time for that....the meter reader was going by the other day, making the dogs bark.....watched some strange movie last night where they were speaking Italian, French, and English all mixed up in their conversations.....they had subtitles for the Italian......nice scenery, in Tuscany......finished up all the Steinhauer novels I think, maybe he'll write something new soon.....

31 windchill

It was raining again when I went to sleep.....broken clouds this morning and continues windy and cold.....had clam chowder last night garnished with diced onion and cheese.....and a slice of pumpernickel toasted with olive oil on it.....watched a B movie western.....got my library books finished so I'll go over there soon and look for something more.....walked this morning for the paper, but the only walking I got done yesterday was in Walmart where I bought a spatula and a bag of apples.....except they aren't called spatulas anymore I guess, they are called "turners"?  my old one broke....it was a cheap one made in India out of pressed tin or something....I have one too made out of nylon or some kind of plastic, but I don't really like it much.....I've got cubed steak left for lunches and suppers, need to use it up before it turns a funny color.....

rollin' thunder

around four in the morning......still some thunder a few minutes ago, and lots of blowing rain....think I heard some hail once or twice before dawn.....one thing said light snow at the Greenville airport.....deep in the heart of Dixie on Palm Sunday?  I didn't see any snow myself.....drove to get the Sunday paper, at least the Jeep is starting OK.....did walk once yesterday afternoon when it stopped raining, bundled up good.....the storm is making a racket against the windows right now.....at least I'm not in Scotland, with the power out and 16 foot snowdrifts on the highways .....maybe it's like that in New England too, haven't looked at the news from there yet.....on a cold wet day I might heat up that clam chowder for supper.....watched some basketball yesterday, with the sound off and playing guitar to T.Rex radio on MOG.....I won't get the San Diego State game, but the North Carolina game I should get on the air.....unless there's still lightning going on, which tends to break up the signal.....that's all towards evening anyway.....need to finish one book today for library Monday tomorrow.....I think this week might be Spring Break?  It's going to be lousy beach weather maybe.....I guess that don't really confront me none.....

Saturday, March 23, 2013

wet weekend

100% chance of rain Saturday and Sunday.....raining right now and on the radar it stretches all the way across GA into AL, moving this way......so Easter egg hunts are cancelled.....other events I'm not sure about.....seedling sale and family fun day at Thornwell could be damp.....and the Little River Fun Run/Walk might be through puddles?  I drove over to get the morning paper, with the windshield wipers running steady......no second walk Friday, maybe no Saturday walking at all.....well, I've got plenty of food in the house.....don't really need to go get anything more in the rain.....got reading material......watched Things to Come from 1936 last night.....and then read my latest spy novel until bedtime, a little after ten.....it's going to snow all weekend in Great Britain, according to BBC news.....possibility of some snow flurries near here along the TN-NC line.....maybe I'll watch an NCAA big dance game in the afternoon.....I get the CBS games is all......can do avocado and fried egg sandwich for lunch, chicken-fried steak supper.....

Friday, March 22, 2013

32 outside, 50% chance of rain today

the paper said this unseasonable cold spell will hang around until Easter, and then beginning in April it will warm up and there will be a hot Spring and Summer.....but for right now the farmers are staying up at night checking on their sprinklers in the strawberry fields.....they showed that on the evening news.....yesterday I had a jack cheese and avocado sandwich for lunch, today can be steak and avocado....chicken-fried steak platter last night, so leftover ribs for this evening.....I got some new mandolin strings and got that thing working pretty good in the afternoon, Irish tuning.....played some piano too, even some fiddle......half way through my last library book, and I've got a whole collection of spy novels now on kindle.....that thing updated it's own software again, so I've got to figure out how it works again.....I guess the updates are improvements.....but the elderly aren't good with random change all the time, confuses us......

Thursday, March 21, 2013

sunny, high of 49F today

still below freezing at 9 in the morning.....got up to 59 Wednesday.....I wonder if you can get an avocado and corned beef sandwich at Subway.....mine on rye toast yesterday lunch was really good.....the little sticker on the avocado said it's a Hass from Mexico.....ripe, none of those black spots inside....one dollar with your bonus card.....it's the little things in life.....ribs came out fine for supper, and there's leftovers .....today can be chicken-fried steak, onion cornbread dressing, either peas or corn, pepper gravy.....finished another Steinhauer spy novel last night.....there are maybe three more left on Amazon that I haven't read.....and then I'll look for more Kerr, he's sort of the same genre.....the murky underworld of of Cold War Eastern Europe.....you learn lots of street names in Vienna, etc....still watching one Justified episode each evening after the overseas news broadcasts.....London hasn't moved to daylight savings time yet, so I see the ten o'clock news instead of the 11 o'clock, which is a bigger production.....with a more senior presenter.....maybe their time will change this coming weekend....local Easter egg hunts are this Saturday, the big one is at the College....there was another article about the chicken farm controversy....the County Council declined to enter the fray, ruling that since voters had rejected enacting any zoning and planning laws three different times there was nothing they could do for the folks who wanted to say No to Chickens in my back yard!  meanwhile in Columbia, they moved one step closer to allowing everyone to carry concealed pistols....permit or no permit.....it went through committee.....that should make it easier to shoot any stray chickens....

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

in the 30s, no sunshine

when I went walking, and later when I went shopping.....got ribs and chicken-fried steak for suppers.....got fresh-baked pumpernickel this week.....got eggs, OJ, garlic ....a potato for baking, etc.....went ahead and got a box of wine, even though it's a couple bucks cheaper at Walmart.....got an avocado, so I can have the last of the corned beef and some avocado in a sandwich for lunch today......and there's cubed steak for some lunches I guess.....they say it might burn off sometime in the afternoon, so instead of walking more now I'll just sit and read the Clinton paper.....walk when it's warmer hopefully......

Tuesday, March 19, 2013

forty and fog

the upper Piedmont "cold air wedge" has returned.....air comes down from NE and wedges up against the GA-NC mountain ranges.....yesterday this made Clinton 30 degrees colder than one hour from here in Columbia, where the wedge doesn't reach.....storm front went through before my bedtime......thunder, rain, some hail.....but cold enough here not to get tornado warnings, like they had in Atlanta....where the wedge doesn't reach.....my Monday afternoon walk was in the low 40s, and the last two blocks coming back to the house were in a light driving mist or drizzle.....Spring will not get here this week except on paper.....highs in the 50s and overnights in the 30s predicted for at least a week.....my sides with chicken yesterday were mashed potatoes and green beans, the sides with the last of the chicken today will be ranch beans and mac n cheese......tomorrow off to the market.....I might make a sandwich for lunch with fried corned beef and a fried egg on rye.....mayo and honey mustard.....finished one Steinhauer novel and got the next one in the series via Whispernet for kindle....two guys from the City are in the neighborhood this week edging the sidewalks and shoveling weeds and dirt to the gutter where the vacuum truck can suck it all up.....they do this once a year I think....I'll start edging my part again when it warms up enough......

Monday, March 18, 2013

rain just before dawn

cloudy and windy when I went out the door.....might be thunderstorms this afternoon and on into the evening.....mid 40s now, might not get much warmer.....Horry County seems to be where the wildfires are whenever it's windy and dry like yesterday.....13 condos burned down there in the low country.....some fires in the Upstate too.....so Sunday was porch weather, Monday looks gloomy.....watched a movie called Four Lions last night, British humour.....I nuked a thing of Thai chicken curry for supper.....it was pretty good, with those micro corn cobs and the other usual oriental veggies, etc....spicy, but not so spicy as to be obnoxious ......might use the last little bit of steak in a lunch sandwich today......

Sunday, March 17, 2013

green sweatshirt

so I'm good for wearing the green this morning.....nice Sunday so far, dogwoods starting to bloom around the neighborhood.....was 78 yesterday and should be similar today....and then chance of rain and colder temps tonight and Monday-Tuesday.....20 degrees cooler for the highs than the weekend....I was sitting out on the porch around ten last night, and it was comfortable enough.....an item of local news is meetings being held regarding more chicken broiler farms getting permitted.....it's a going business in the county already, but folks near the proposed sites are fussing that it will smell bad.....they don't raise them for eggs, just for eating.....the article I was reading said it takes 65 days to get them ready for market, and then they spread out the chicken shit which causes the stink, but contractors come and scoop it up pretty quick and sell it to vegetable farmers.....rural county problems....the smell was pretty bad on Paradise Mountain from the chicken ranches there for sure....it's out on 308 towards Ora where they are having the fuss.....I've got chicken for supper myself today I guess, might be local raised, I don't know.....had steak, beans, mac n cheese last night.....watched a good British secret service type movie....nobody got shot or beat up or anything, but it was still an entertaining flick.....got another Steinhauer eastern Europe spy novel on kindle, so I have that and one more library book to read.....

Saturday, March 16, 2013

fire danger

high winds and low humidity......55F this morning, should get into the 70s again later today.....nice to have it warmer.....finished The Piano Tuner, that was a good read.....watched a John Wayne movie I don't think I'd ever seen before, from 1965.....had chicken dinner again.....had corned beef jack cheese melt for lunch.....took a nap in the afternoon.....should vacuum soon.....you can hear the wind stirring things up out there.....guess I'll take a windy walk, and then there's a couple of things I can get out shopping here in town, don't need to go over to Walmart for them.....they are calling this a "holiday weekend" for St. Patrick's?  should be about like any other weekend really....they don't sell beer on Sunday, so maybe the green beer is tonight somewhere.....

Friday, March 15, 2013

overnight freeze again

I hope that stops happening when Spring gets here next week......they had a farmer on the evening news saying that there had been too much rain this Winter.....it helped with the drought, which is good.....but it kept the fields so flooded and muddy that he can't get his tractors out to plow for Spring planting.....always something....glad I'm not a farmer.....I'm still walking after lunch, 'cause it's been too cold to walk this time of day....still 32 out right now at nine in the morning....did bundle up and walk for the paper.....clear and cold, not much wind.....the natural gas bill was right at 100 bucks again for last month, but that should be the last big one of the heating season.....have to start yard work sometime soon, need to trim up some bushes while the sap is rising.....some folks are already running lawnmowers for the first time since last year.....but I'll hold off on that, my weeds aren't getting high yet....I had a corned beef and jack cheese sandwich on the last whole wheat roll for Thursday lunch, so now we go to corned beef and rye just in time for St. Paddy......fried chicken platter last night.....maybe the same today, or maybe steak and ranch beans, with mac n cheese?  I have a frozen Thai Red Curry too, for some day.....

Thursday, March 14, 2013

crisp

28F windchill out walking as the sun was coming up.....mid 50s again today, but maybe mid70s by Sunday.....that was a good artichoke, with BBQ sauce steak and cheese toast.....the dip was mayo, honey mustard, curry powder......I listened to Bowie's new album on MOG the other day.....wouldn't buy that one either don't think......the cold fried chicken from the deli case heats up nicely in the microwave, so I'll have some of that this evening with mashed potatoes and peas.....alternate sides would be mac n cheese and ranch beans.....enough steak left for another supper and a lunch sandwich.....they were asking on the news how you would like to live on the $30 a week somebody on food stamps gets.....been doing that for years myself, just out of my own pocket though.....it's not that hard, just allow yourself small portions.....watched the 2012 Coldplay tour movie the other night.....all their songs seem to have the same chorus?  that was free on Netflix, would not have paid money for it.....if there is any good new music out there, I'm having trouble finding it.....

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

artichoke

I think I mentioned that last time they had a dollar off on artichokes I got one and the girl asked me what it was when I was checking out....so she could look up the price since it didn't have a sticker on it.....this time I got one and a guy in a Clemson sweatshirt was the checker.....he took one look at the artichoke and just moved it on through.....he didn't know what it was so he didn't even charge me for it?  It's not on my receipt when I got home anyway.....so a piece of steak and free artichoke for supper today, with maybe some beans as the second side.....they did have fresh baked rye bread in the bakery section.....got canned corned beef, a whole brisket is just too much for me to deal with.....got a whole fried chicken .....etc.....30F windchill 'round about sun-up.....67 yesterday, might get to 57 today.....got the local paper for the week to read now.....still have a bit of pork left for a lunch today, and then it will be corned beef sandwiches for a while....

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

rained all night

and was still raining during breakfast, but moved on east by the time I went out the door right before sunrise.....so lots of standing water in places but I didn't get wet.....was 68 yesterday, might be 64 today.....it was still warm enough around nine at night to sit on the porch and watch it rain....didn't need to run any heat at all overnight....one more roast pork dinner left, and then grocery shopping.....maybe it's time for a whole chicken....I should drive some today, the Jeep has been sitting since Saturday....but it's warmer so it should crank over easier anyway.....can have the last of the smoked beef sausage on wheat roll for lunch.....the grocery ad featured swirl rye sandwich loaf fresh baked for $1.99.....we'll see tomorrow if they actually have that on hand.....

Monday, March 11, 2013

grits n gravy

eggs over easy and some sausage.....Sunday supper.....lunch was strips of pork steak fried up, with BBQ sauce and pickle chips.....cloud cover this morning, so it's mid 40s instead of around freezing.....the storm front to the west should get here late afternoon, and rain until early Tuesday morning....finished my spy novel on kindle.....watched a heist movie where the ending was tricky, but at least understandable......was warm enough yesterday that folks were out porch-sitting some....

Sunday, March 10, 2013

nice sunrise

pink and orange in the east.....but you couldn't actually see the sun at 7:30, what with the time change.....was still dark out while fixing breakfast.....street lights still on during the newspaper walk.....if these morning clouds burn off it might get to high 60s later today.....and then 80% chance of rain by tomorrow night.....I grilled some sausage with onion and toasted the roll in the skillet too for a lunch sandwich yesterday.....that worked.....watched another movie with a confusing ending.....it was in English, but I still couldn't figure it out....maybe the screenwriters went on strike half way through the shooting.....did laundry in the afternoon, the new jeans said to wash separate or with like colors in cold water before wearing.....so that's what I did....didn't see any evidence of color bleeding really.....so these jeans are relaxed fit and comfortable, and the right length so I don't have to roll up the cuffs....ten bucks at Walmart....Faded Glory?  I got bitters and Roses' lime juice while I was over there, since the grocery stores around here don't carry them.....neither do the ABCs.....they can only sell things with alcohol in them.....so Spring next week?

Saturday, March 9, 2013

24 windchill early on

but it got up to 61 Friday....and might get around that again this afternoon....no rain until Monday ......I sliced up some of the roast pork, and covered that and some dressing with gravy....used the last of the squash.....microwaved that platter and had a tasty supper.....might be the same thing today, except with peas.....or I have a clam chowder option.....thinking of going over to Walmart this morning because I don't have a pair of blue jeans without any holes.....one pair has a hole in the seat, the other pair a hole in the left knee....it's probably a couple of years since I last bought jeans.....watched Avatar on Prime last night....never seen that before, waited until it was on for free.....started reading The Piano Tuner.....I guess I've pretty much gone through all the good pecans left under the trees out back, there's a pile of shells at one end of the front porch where I've been sitting and eating them when it's nice out.....the smaller darker pecans that are left must be from a previous year, they are mostly rotten when you crack them open.....smoked beef sausage on half a whole wheat roll makes for a hearty lunch.....be doing that for a few days looks like.....

Friday, March 8, 2013

overnight freeze again

in the 20s around sunrise....but they are calling for highs in the 60s by Sunday, 68 for Greenville and the Irish Festival.....I did get outside some yesterday afternoon, in a somewhat chilly breeze....but it was sunny.....the black-eyed peas meal was hot and plenty.....so today I can microwave a pork-steak platter for supper.....lunch can be sausage on a roll, with maybe pickle slices, mayo, honey mustard.....stayed up until around 10:30 and slept through 'til morning OK.....was watching a French flic flick.....there seems to be plenty of crime in Paris....enough to fuel a film industry.....about half way through reading Rasputin's Daughter.....

Thursday, March 7, 2013

Hendrix at 70

That's a scary thought right there.....it's the heading of an article in the Greenville paper....about the release of the last album of studio tapes from Jimi Hendrix.....so I punched up MOG on Roku and sure enough the album was in new releases....so I cranked up the stereo and listened to it
this morning.....I don't know what it costs to buy your  own digital copy or a CD in the mail, but I wouldn't have paid very much myself....and I marked it as a favorite on MOG so I can go back and listen to it anytime I want anyway?  The economics of the music industry has become
confusing to me ......and the "at 70" part just reminded me of how much time has passed....

time will change

next week it will barely be light when I go out the door at 7:30.....was 30F this morning....clear, bright, calm.....good personal attributes, those.....it's still just 36 out now, so 2nd walk might be delayed until afternoon .....hopefully it warms up some by then.....I got Boston Butt steaks yesterday, hadn't tried that before....$1.99/lb......iron skillet in the oven with sea-salt, olive oil, minced garlic, oregano.....covered at 350 for about an hour, and then turned over and uncovered at 425 for maybe 20 minutes.....perfect.....made gravy and apple cornbread dressing.....yellow squash with sweet onion as the other side dish.....so there's plenty of meat already cooked for a week, can be used various ways.....today I'll brown some pork with onion in olive oil and add a can of black-eyed peas and have that over cornbread for supper.....lunches this week will be either the pork on whole wheat sandwich roll, or I've got a beef kielbasa that was at a good price....got jack cheese for a change.....remembered to get kitchen sponges.....they were on a two-for-one sale.....

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

high wind warning

25 degree windchill when I went out the door after breakfast.....a short thunderstorm went through last night.....while I was watching some Swedish movie that was more than three hours long.....I'm going over to the grocery store soon, I need apples, raisins, eggs, cheese....I need a package of sponges, my last one is getting ratty.....I still have two chili dogs left, I'll look for some kind of lunch meat.....and maybe sandwich rolls in the bakery section.....for something a little different....I think I got whole wheat rolls there one time cheap.....probably buy some cubed steak, haven't done that in a while....make sort of chicken-fried steak for a couple suppers anyway.....well, off I go.....

Tuesday, March 5, 2013

Nicer in the afternoon

After lunch the sun came out and I could go for a downtown walk and even sit out on the porch for a while....but clouds are coming and going still....it has got up around sixty.....I think I'll try to take a little nap...

raining this morning

but in the 40s instead of the 20s like it had been lately at sunrise.....air is now moving up from SW instead of down from NE.....good chance of rain all day long, then a chance of snow after dark in the forecast.....peas soup and cornbread will be good on a cold damp day I guess....it was good last night.....the grocery ad was in the mail yesterday.....maybe cube steak and/or pork steak for the coming food week....two of the featured items .....only one egg left, so I need those.....stuffing mix is two for one in the ad.....so I drove in the rain to get the newspaper, might not get any walking done today unless I can see a break on the radar sometime.....finished a sci-fi book on kindle last night....yesterday I went to the library and found three books that might be good.....and I've got the spy novel to finish.....watched the last Bally K show on Prime, so now I don't know what I'll do after watching the newscasts from overseas in the evening....I'll search British comedy again, might find something.....

Monday, March 4, 2013

hard frost

a hard frost is below 28F for a few hours, that's one definition anyway.....it was 25F at sunrise, lots of cars had icy windshields.....why does it seem like there is more traffic on Monday mornings....and why are there Friday afternoon traffic jams?  Do some people drive to work and back once a week?  They drive crazier on Mondays too.....clear skies and sunny, maybe it will warm up as the day goes along.....I'm going to dice up some ham and onion to go in the split-pea soup.....bake some cornbread.....put some cornbread in the bowl and some soup on top....garnish with parmesan-romono cheese.....I think I can get Monday and Tuesday suppers out of that......I drove out through the country yesterday.....there is a lot of country around here....farm country and just plain woods.....got on the Interstate for about ten miles so I could kick up to 70 mph and give the engine some good exercise.....no movies last night, just reading .....found a third Milo Weaver book on kindle....

Sunday, March 3, 2013

it did snow some yesterday

started around 11 and actually accumulated a bit on the ground before the front went over and the sun came out....so about 12:30 I went for a mostly sunny walk with the ground steaming as the snow went away.....another little front came through after dark, but I didn't go out to look if it snowed anymore then, don't think it did.....just a little more rain.....Sunday morning 30F at sunrise, some clouds....no wind....I'll do the Sunday breakfast for supper thing with corned beef hash and eggs scramble, biscuits and gravy.....got my newspaper walk done this morning, read the paper.....should drive somewhere later in the day, on the theory that the Jeep needs to drive some when it's been getting below freezing every night.....didn't watch any movie last night, just read until a little after ten and then went to bed....

Saturday, March 2, 2013

ice pellets

ice pellets and rain drops when I went out the door to get the paper.....wintry mix they call it....the Jeep cranked over OK so I drove for the paper rather than walk in wintry mix.....right now it's just plain rain and 32F windchill outside.....don't think I'll be going for a walk anytime soon....did get  a park walk done after lunch yesterday......bundled up pretty good.....microwaved a plate with chicken leg quarter and two sides for Friday supper, so tonight can be country ham platter like Thursday.....a cousin on fb said there's big snowflakes coming down in Clemson, which isn't too far from here.....maybe it's moving this way.....probably just be cold and wet here though.....well, I can stay inside and read....again....

Friday, March 1, 2013

3113

28 and clear, not much wind .....they are still saying chance of snow Saturday morning, like a couple of weeks ago?  Did my second walk in Walmart yesterday, since it never did warm up much outside.....one thing I got was Merlot, three bucks per litre.....the $15 box of Franzia said Product of France this time.....sometimes it says Chile, or Argentina.....so French wine for a while....the country ham for supper was really tasty.....with biscuits and gravy, corn.....this time I bought "biscuit gravy" mix....it's good.....it sort of tastes like white sauce made with Bisquik.....could be a white sauce substitute in recipes.....I've been using a alfredo sauce from a jar as a substitute.....stopped making my own white sauce 'cause I never have milk in the fridge, haven't bought any in years.....movie from Brazil last night, so I guess that wasn't Spanish they were speaking....'cause some Pope gave Brazil to Portugal a long time ago.....got a good sci-fi book on kindle, a guy I was reading about ten years ago has a couple more books out I never read ....Alistair Reynolds.....supper menu for Friday is baked chicken, whole wheat noodles, corn.....chile dog and Chili Fritos for lunch.....
