grilled ham-and-swiss on rye

I got more rye bread, even though I still have half a loaf of whole wheat on hand.....I just like the taste and texture of grilled rye.......seeded.....and the wheat is fine for poached egg on toast in the morning.....at the store I also got breaded shrimp at half price, the kind you put in the oven on a cookie sheet.....actually, I use the convection/toaster oven for the amount I eat at a meal.....that works fine, and saves electricity.....and I got macaroni salad, cheap shrimp sauce, some good looking fresh squash to steam.....a rib-eye steak.....so shrimp supper tonight, and in the morning I'll start the corned beef meal in the crock-pot....I think I've got plenty of food for a while.....it was 54F earlier today the first time I went out.....after I put the groceries away I went walking again, and it was 59 by then.....they predict a high of 71 in the afternoon, 2 or 3 degrees warmer than Tuesday's high.....some areas got rain last night, but not right here that I saw.....I think I just heard the mail truck go by without stopping.....I've got the Clinton weekly paper to look at, and library books......

low visibility

41F, misting and thick fog when I went for the paper.....should burn off and get to mid-60's later today.....last night I made stir-fry pork and veggies over rice noodles......still a lot of the pork sirloin left, and two chicken wings.....so I still have corned beef brisket, a head of cabbage, and some red potatoes to start another week with tomorrow.....another grocery week.....watched some "Father Ted" after the news.....that's just bizarre .......there is no West Craggy Island, because the Western bit just sort of drifted away in a big storm a while back.....I was nodding off watching the news-reel style propaganda documentary about the war with Japan.....I think I nodded off in elementary school watching the same flick on a rainy day with the curtains pulled and the lights off..... in 5th and 6th grade I got to run the projector some times, and push it back and forth from the AV Room.....about the same years as Safety Patrol.....we used to go down the hill to the highway with our little stop-signs on fogged-out mornings like this and stop people speeding to work so little kids could cross.....it's a wonder that nobody ever got run-over in that situation.....now they have bright flashing strobe lights on the school busses to get drivers to pay attention....those are a good idea....

Monday, February 27, 2012

was raining before breakfast

but just dripping off eaves and trees by the time I got out the door to go walking....now fog and 41F......I simmered some pinto beans with onion and garlic and had that with the last piece of enchilada and some green salad with ranch dressing for Sunday supper.....I might do slices of pork loin in BBQ sauce and the same two veggie sides for today.....it's always a race between using up bagged salad and the lettuce wilting or rusting.....later in the afternoon yesterday the wind let up and the sun came out enough to sit on the porch for a while in relative comfort, watch the birds and the squirrels......now at 9 in the morning it's starting to rain some more....

26F windchill, mostly cloudy

around 7:30 this morning....now at 9:30 it's still at 33 windchill, a lot of the clouds have been blown off to the West by a cold wind.....still some high thin clouds.....so it's sunny on the front porch, but not comfortable enough out there to sit and eat my apple, so I'll eat it inside on the sofa......had french toast with a little fried ham for Sunday breakfast....orange juice and coffee.....I swept and ran the vacuum yesterday, so it looks clean for the moment.....watched some documentary last night about the Pacific Theatre.....from 1951....there are more episodes to watch, maybe it was a weekly TV show when I was 3 years old.....yes, there was TV back then....we didn't have one though.....we had a brown bakelite Philco AM radio.....we did have Rural Free Delivery from the Post Office, and the Rural Electrification Agency.....it had billboards with Reddy Kilowatt on them.....a cartoon spokesman for getting your house wired....he had a light-bulb for a head, and the rest of him was made out of lightning bolts.....this county is still officially defined as rural, due to it's low population density.....most areas you can still get 100% home loans under Rural Housing.....Blue Hose basketball seniors played their last game yesterday, a win.....Lady Red Devils lost to Wade Hampton, so the Lady Generals go on to the State AAA Championship game, as the Upper State team.....I don't know who the Lower State team is.....I guess I can have ham and swiss on wheat for lunch later....I have various choices for supper this evening.....figure that out later....

Saturday, February 25, 2012

they flipped the switch

back to "cold" for the weekend.....windchill 34F when I walked for the newspaper.....Lady Red Devils play for the Upper State AAA basketball championship today at 5 over in Greenville.....looks like the Daytona 500 is on Sunday afternoon.....the pork sirloin tacos were good for supper.....now I need to think of a couple more ways to do leftover pork roast.....with rice and gravy.....with BBQ sauce......I can nuke chicken wings this evening with leftover mac-n-cheese, continue with the salad side too.....it really poured rain here yesterday, I sat out on the porch and watched it for a while....wasn't cold out, just wet.....I got in a park walk between showers, almost....I got a little bit wet right as I was on the last block back home.....they are starting work on two new parking lots over by the Pharmacy School.....paid for by County bonds? It looks like the sidewalk is going to be dug up for a portion of my early walk.....I wonder if they'll put down those nice granite curb-stones like they did over by the bank, those look spiffy.....

Friday, February 24, 2012

66F this morning

the paper says 31% chance of rain in Laurens County today......clouded over right now.....did the pork sirloin in the iron skillet, and it came out tasty and tender.....there's plenty of it left, so today I'll make carnitas tacos and pintos.....I have some cilantro left, and half a spanish onion.....can have a salad too I suppose.....I have whole wheat for lunch sandwiches this week, lots of swiss cheese left......I can finish off the pimento-pickle loaf and then start in on some really thin sliced Southern Home cooked ham.....after the news yesterday I watched old science-fiction shows and then read a fantasy novel until bedtime.....it rained just a little towards dawn, but it wasn't a thunder storm like the night before.....the weatherman had predicted another such storm, but it must have missed Clinton......so I didn't even need a jacket for the daybreak walk, for the first time in a long time.....

Thursday, February 23, 2012

after midnight

about 12:20.....thunder storm woke me up.....lots of lightning, and then about 10 minutes of powerful wind and driving rain....and then it got quiet and I went back to sleep.....57F on the early walk, 100% humidity.....calm.....I used "House-Autry Southern Baked Chicken Bake" on the wings in the oven.....says on the box it's the choice of southern cooks since 1812, or something like that....pretty good.....maybe this afternoon I'll do the pork sirloin, with potato wedges and some of the mixed veggies from the freezer....the stir-fry veggies.....can just nuke 'em and called them steamed.....it's all in the presentation.....that's true in the kitchen, and in life in general....they say 75F this P.M. .....I'll believe that when I see it....right now it's still trying to burn off some fog and low clouds......watched an old Alan Ladd movie last night, those are usually good, in a predictable sort of way....you know he will always win in the end.....I got a free kindle book about expeditions looking for the North-West Passage, and similar wilderness tales.....no mail yesterday.....that utility bill should be coming any day now.....and then I'll be done with bills until next month.....

Wednesday, February 22, 2012

warmer?

it might get into the 70s Thursday and Friday.....chance of rain tonight and on into the morning then warmer air coming from someplace I guess.....overcast this morning, in the 40s.....I had enchilada and salad again last night, used up the lettuce.....and it's grocery day again....so I had a chinese week and a mexican week.....don't think I could do an italian week.....maybe something with fish patties, I have tartar sauce.....chicken wings.....finished another kindle book last night, so I can look online later today for something else in that regard.....I have half of that Walmart deli sandwich left for lunch.....

Tuesday, February 21, 2012

Walmart trip

they have Easter baskets out already.....I did buy a turkey and colby-jack sandwich on a multi-grain bun for 3 bucks.....it will make two lunches for me....and back home I turned on the live 365 thing I had clicked on last night as a banner down at the bottom of the Roku.....this is pretty cool, there seem to be hundreds of niche stations .....there's a "1983 KROQ 106.7" station....time tripping to the max......for a nominal fee there are no commercials......right now I'm on the 15 day free trial with "Live Alternative" playing......

about like yesterday morning

right at freezing, frost and clouds at sunrise.....more clouds today maybe, no sun coming in the living room window.....got the space heater on in here.....got up to 54 Monday, 58 this afternoon is the prediction.....I made the enchilada pie in the fashion of a New Mexico enchilada.....in other words in the middle of a large dish stacked up tall, instead of in a smaller dish covered with the sauce totally.....good stuff, plenty leftover......I think I'll drive over to Walmart, pretty much just to get out of the house and go somewhere.....I might look at their bakery bread, see if anything looks interesting....only two slices left of rye bread right now....watched more I Remember Nelson last night, only one more of those left to view.....got a historical novel by Conan-Doyle on the kindle.....he wrote plenty besides Sherlock apparently....this one is set in the Lord Nelson era....French spies along the seacoast, etc....maybe I'll go hog-wild and buy a lunch sandwich at the Walmart deli case.....

Monday, February 20, 2012

late last night

before I went to bed the radar was showing some snow down into South Carolina, and the NC mountain counties were getting quite a bit.....Winter storm warnings for the Monday commute....but it's a holiday anyway, for the schools at least..so they didn't have to do the school closure advisements this time.....here there was just a lot of rain, and a heavy frost this morning....32 degrees at dawn.....I'm going to go ahead and make enchilada pie today, use up the other half of the ground beef and more tortillas.....the sun came out enough to go walk the park a bit ago.....Sunday there never was any walking weather.....I have pimiento-pickle loaf for lunch meat today I suppose.....with swiss on rye.....I should make a salad to go along with the enchilada, to use up the head of lettuce a little bit more.....still some olives left too....

Sunday, February 19, 2012

wet

when I went out the door there was a cold blowing drizzle/light rain.....so I cranked up the Jeep to go get the paper.....48 degrees, and they say it will get colder as the day goes by....eventually getting down around freezing with a slight chance of snow by the middle of the night.....I think I'll be inside most of the day.....I can vacuum, maybe do a load of laundry.....for something different, I could open that can of Vienna sausages for lunch....with crackers and cheese.....more tacos last night.....with avocado.....I'm thinking of huevos rancheros for supper, just because I have lots of eggs, cheese, tortillas, and salsa.....and cilantro as a garnish......played at guitar a lot yesterday, and my wrist didn't bother me....it was just that one day it felt tweaked, thank goodness.....looking out at the back yard, the rain is coming down harder now.....ENE wind 7 mph.....so rain is blowing onto the front porch some.....no football to watch on a rainy day....I haven't even tried to get into college basketball this year.....maybe March Madness will be interesting in a few weeks.....Blue Hose lost last night.....

Saturday, February 18, 2012

a decent avocado

I've never had much luck with BiLo avocados.......they were always bruised so that half of the insides were black and useless.....but this time I found a good one, and had a successful taco salad experience....it wasn't real big, and didn't exactly have that buttery-nutty Calavo flavor.....but it was good enough....product of Mexico.....my wine this week is product of Argentina....the 5 litre wine-boxes went up two dollars? Damn......35 degrees early on this morning.....the prediction is for around an inch of rain in the Upstate Saturday night and on through Sunday afternoon.....so I'll go walk the park before the afternoon.....or maybe I'll walk the downtown square, sometimes that's my Saturday walk.....I hear a train a'comin'.....otherwise a quiet calm morning, some clouds, no wind.....well, not much wind.....

Friday, February 17, 2012

Reuben egg rolls

on Fridays the Greenville paper has it's Weekend supplement, which tells what bands are playing and special events, etc.....and they have restaurant reviews back near the horoscopes and comics....this week they have a place which besides wings and pints serves "....the signature Reuben eggroll--corned beef, sauerkraut and swiss cheese in a traditional eggroll wrapper, served with Thousand Island dipping sauce ($6)." I had a beefy bean tostado for lunch yesterday.....I might have grilled swiss on rye today.....I don't have any corned beef on hand.....is this a four-day weekend or something? no school busses today, no traffic on Elizabeth.....nobody at the gas station when I bought the paper.....it's hard for me to figure what's a day off and what's not.....the days being all the same to me.....more tacos for supper last night, might vary it tonight with taco salad.....tonight at 7 is when Clinton hosts Wade Hampton in a second play-off basketball game, not sometime next week.....I read the latest Orson Scott Card "Ender" book yesterday....it's not very long.....it was on the New Fiction display as you come in the door at the library Monday....I've got a pretty strange old book of a British aristocrat's memoirs on the kindle right now....one of the free books from Amazon, with the expired copyright.....the fog today should burn off by the afternoon.....Saturday another rain-front is predicted.....it sort of dripped most of the afternoon yesterday, but I did get some walking done earlier on, around lunch-time.....

Thursday, February 16, 2012

aches and pains

yesterday my left heel was hurting.....this morning my right wrist is aching....they say the roads get in bad shape because they freeze and then thaw and the asphalt breaks up.....I think this roller-coaster weather we've been having is freezing my poor old bones and joints and then thawing them out again and my body breaks up.....it's raining this morning, so I drove over and got my newspaper.....and it had a Macy's ad in it that had one of those damn perfume samples in it so my newspaper stank and gave me a headache.....those things should be outlawed.....Laurens high school is in AAAA, and they lost their play-off game last night.....twisting my wrist, it is making grinding noises.....heck, I'm probably getting carpal tunnel in my guitar picking hand.....I fell asleep on the sofa during the evening news after supper....stuffed with really good tacos....I remembered to buy a head of garlic, but forgot to put any in the meat when I was cooking it.....but I still have half the meat to cook another day, so I can put some garlic in that half, if I can remember .....garlic is good for your memory, if you can get it into yourself in the first place.....I got the gas bill yesterday, roughly 40% less than the same billing cycle last year.....the Gas Authority said in the Chronicle that their revenues so far this Winter are a half million less than last Winter.....the neighbor dogs are barking.....might be the water and electric meter reader....'bout time for him I think.....

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

freezing fog

and a heavy frost....32 degrees when I checked the weather while drinking my tea after eating my oatmeal.....my ski jacket has those reflective strips down the arms, so people don't run me over crossing Elizabeth St. in poor visibility conditions.....that's my theory anyway....most of them had their headlights on so I could watch out.....the fog is starting to burn off OK now.....Clinton boy's basketball won their game last night, so next week they play Wade Hampton, which is the #3 seed.....that might be a tougher game......I guess I will do taco night....maybe even taco week.....have to use up the tortillas when I buy a package.....can make spanish rice with brown rice....don't see why not ......get lettuce and olives and make taco salad too.....need to get cheese and salsa....bell pepper and another onion....I'm out of garlic....it can be done, I'll head over to the store in a few minutes....more pintos.....

Tuesday, February 14, 2012

no snow here

there was a little rain around first light, but it was 36 degrees so it wasn't cold enough for it to be snow.....so I guess I can go out walking earlier today, rather than waiting until after lunch.....it's not too bad out, no wind......no movies last night, just the news, Firefly, and then reading on kindle 'til 10:30.....I woke up thinking it was Wednesday, but quickly realized it was really Tuesday.....I have the chicken chow mein left for tonight, and then I can start planning meals for another week.....maybe it's time for mexican.....St. Patrick's is coming up, but a whole corned beef brisket is just too much to mess with.....though it does make good sandwiches.....too many sandwiches....and it's expensive....the cabbage I like.....oh well, we'll see....butter is getting low, can get eggs this week too.....the Red Devils host a first-round basketball playoff game at 7 this evening, since they went 7-0 in region.....but they are only seeded in the middle of the Upstate AAA because their overall record was only around .500......

2 more lost truck drivers this morning

looking for Richloom, relying on GPS.....if you just google "Richloom Clinton" you get an accurate map of how to get there.....I went over to the library, and into the grocery store for orange juice....21 degrees this morning.....they are still predicting snow flurries around dawn tomorrow....I'll try walking again after lunch, maybe the sun will have taken the edge off the chill by then....this below freezing stuff makes my lower back ache if I stay out in it too long.....I just had one of those french bread pizza things for supper last night, too lazy to figure out anything else to cook....I guess I'll have grilled cheese lunch today, alternate that with chicken salad....one of the neighbors said she had heard there was a fire in the mill last night....turns out it was Lydia Mill, across the tracks....not the mill around the block from here....it's being demolished anyway, but there was a fire in a stairwell around 7 in the evening, of a suspicious nature as they say.....might have been somebody trying to get warm, it stayed pretty cold all day long Sunday....I don't remember hearing any firetrucks.....but I had the TV on I guess....watching fires in Athens and fighting in Syria, etc....and Whitney Houston.....I can't name any song of hers myself....off the top of my head....

Sunday, February 12, 2012

2/12/12

and 12 degrees windchill at sunrise.....wind warning continues today, low humidity and high fire danger.....be careful taking a small boat out on a lake......I never turned the TV on yesterday.....for some reason there isn't any local news at six on Saturdays in this market.....during the week I watch the NBC station mostly, but on Saturday it just has weird sports on, like golf....or figure skating....the news crew gets the day off? so there's some sunshine coming into the living room, and I've got the electric fire running.....don't think I need to go outside in the cold for anything again today......I have kindle things to read.....I had cream sherry french toast and sausage for breakfast.....lunch can be chicken salad on rye with a side of slaw.....don't know what's for supper.....I'm low on orange juice, so maybe I'll pick some up in the morning when I go over to that side of town with my library books.....

Saturday, February 11, 2012

snow by Tuesday?

the weatherman was saying that the coldest days of this Winter are on the way.....it was clear and cold at sunrise, and you could see dark clouds to the West and North.....around 9:30 the front marked by those clouds got here with a bitter blast of wind.....I went out driving to Ora, and came back through Wattsville and Laurens....stopping at Walmart, but not finding what I was looking for there.....I'll go to a regular hardware store some other day, nothing urgent....but I did get some walking done inside the store, out of the wind.....I made enough chicken chow mein for two suppers, good stuff.....I've got one chicken breast left still that I can do something with this evening.....breaded and fried with pinto beans and slaw as the sides? I had chicken salad sandwich yesterday for lunch, so today I think I'll do grilled swiss on rye, corn chips, and a Greek pepper....glass of merlot, from Chile.....finished an e-book last night, a good science fiction short novel, lots of ideas in it......so some time today I'll look at Jasmine and Amazon for something else to download to the kindle.....I had like three pages of titles already, so I figured out how to delete the things I was done with, to clean things up.....Monday I can go to the physical library, as opposed to the virtual one.....

Friday, February 10, 2012

arctic air on the way

over the weekend.....all the way down into Florida.....predicting 20 degrees at sunrise Sunday....36 and clouded over here this morning....saved some of the chicken breast from last night to make curried chicken salad for lunch sandwiches....I have whole-grain rye bread that's pretty tasty....and slaw.....I might go ahead and make chicken chow mein tonight, still have plenty of vegetables, etc....the bowl of shrimp chow mein made a good hot lunch yesterday, on a dang cold day.....it did get warm enough to walk the park around noon, but then it clouded over again and the wind came up too, so when I tried to sit out on the porch for a while I gave up and came back inside pretty quick.....instead of snack mix, I had crackers and swiss cheese while I was watching something about Lord Nelson, and then something about King John and the Magna Carta after the news and before bed.....

Thursday, February 9, 2012

back to frost, north wind

yesterday's clouds are gone leaving it clear and cold again.....below freezing at night....there's enough shrimp chow mein left to have a bowl for lunch today.....and for supper I'll do something with chicken breast besides chow mein.....like maybe BBQ style, with cole slaw and something.....nothing in the mail yesterday......watched an old movie and then read an e-book until around 10:30 and then went to bed.....in front of the mill when I was walking in the afternoon the AT&T guys were moving their lines from the old telephone pole to the new one that the contractor had put in the ground last week.....when they released the lines from the old pole, it just fell over.....guess it really was ripe for replacement.....the pole near my back fence looks fairly new, hopefully it isn't ready to fall over too.....the one by the mill had been hit by a car a few months ago, maybe that was a contributing factor in it's failure.....not any other excitement in the neighborhood that I can think of.....

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

stir-fry

I'll make shrimp chow mein tonight, and chicken chow mein some other day....got the noodles, veggies, sauce, etc.....frozen shrimp, some chicken breasts at a decent price.....rye bread, swiss cheese, pickle loaf, jar of Greek peppers.....bite-size shredded wheat and a can of mixed nuts for snack mix this week....little green apples.....and the weekly paper to read next thing, 'cause it's light rain outside at the moment.....was raining on the grocery trip, drizzle for about one minute on my 20 minute sunrise walk....39 degrees ......I had hash browns, toast, egg-over-easy and two sausage links for supper last night......watched a movie about Mary Queen of Scots ....today is the anniversary of her death, beheaded by Elizabeth I......well, I'll eat my apple and read the paper.....oh, Vienna Sausages were marked down to .50 so I got a can of those too....

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

turned fairly nice

by the afternoon......the park walk was comfortable enough after lunch.....the Tuesday grocery ads didn't have anything to inspire me.....don't know what I'll look for in the morning at the store....bags of shrimp are on sale....and there were two pages of sweets for Valentine's Day.....fatten up your Valentine.....maybe I'll figure out some Chinese dish with shrimp....I've done shrimp and grits every way I can think of already.....though the pimento cheese shrimp and grits was pretty good last time I fixed that....hmmm....the store brand mixed nuts are on sale too....maybe they can go in my snack mix for the week.....with Corn Chex or something.....the Pandora "radio" is kickin' pretty good for some reason....guess I could crank up the Mustang amp and the Special SG and jam along for a bit.....I'm easily amused.....

down around freezing

early in the morning....I hope the frost isn't hard enough to hurt the peach blossoms.....walked for the newspaper all bundled up.....will probably delay any more walking until the afternoon, like I did yesterday......I did a bourbon glaze for the pork chop .....so there's some of that sausage casserole and some cornbread stuffing left....might mix them together in a pan and heat that up for supper ...... a Radio Shack ad was all I got in the mail for Monday.....I watched a Chinese Johnny Hallyday flick last night.....the "French Elvis".....sort of a Charles Bronson persona shooting at hit-men in Macau.....and I finished Death of Kings by Bernard Cornwell....looks like I could sweep, mop, and vacuum around here......they are working on power lines down the street, hope they don't glitch the power 'cause that always screws up the internet connection until everything can reset itself.....it looks like they are replacing some old utility poles that are split and cracked and leaning....our aging infrastructure.....I need to remember to get more cheese tomorrow at the store, there's just a little left.....

Monday, February 6, 2012

cold wind

overcast, windchill 34 degrees.....yesterday it got up to 72.....those Super Bowl commercials were largely just confusing.....at the end of all these images flashed on the screen the viewer can't figure out what is being advertised exactly.....this viewer anyway....so was that money well spent? How old is Madonna? Why did that one guy sit down backwards going over the goal line with no defender anywhere near him? My french bread pizza at half-time was good, that's about all
I've got to say really.....I've got pork chop supper for today I guess.....it just doesn't look cheerful outside at all right now.....maybe by the afternoon some sunshine will come through......

Sunday, February 5, 2012

it's burning off some

the early fog and overcast.....the rain that went through in the middle of the night didn't even wake me up.....I must have been sleeping like a log....in fact I slept almost until 6 AM, which is pretty good for me.....I did stay up until 11, maybe that had something to do with it.....54 degrees at sunrise today.....this mild Winter has some things blooming too early, like the peach groves.....the growers are worried that a hard frost might come along and nip the whole crop in the bud, as it were......always something to worry about....glad I'm not a farmer.....the casserole last night came out pretty much OK.....some of the rice was a little al dente.....the brown rice doesn't cook exactly like the white rice, takes a little longer I guess.....the Super Bowl is on way after supper-time.....at least my supper-time.....but folks still have feasts during the game? like Dagwood in the funnies this morning.....hot wings and pulled pork have been featured in the grocery store ads leading up to game day around here......a recipe in the paper was for what they call a BBQ sundae....pulled pork, baked beans, and slaw all layered in a mason jar, with cornbread on top of it all.....sounds messy to eat in the TV room.....I'm still going with the french bread pizza .....I got a steam-punk sci-fi adventure downloaded from the library, was reading that late last night, after watching some foreign news and a Firefly episode.....

Saturday, February 4, 2012

raining on and off

so I didn't walk for the paper this morning.....maybe in a while I can get some walking done without getting wet....keep an eye on the radar......I'm low on coffee, so I might go get that sometime today.....watched Lunopolis on Netflix last night.....that's a strange movie....it's one that the program had selected for me, however that works......finished the book about the three kings named Edward, and started one about Alfred of Wessex......the kindle was acting funny, the pages weren't turning like they usually do.....troubleshooting said it might be a low battery.....it did show a low charge, so I plugged my cell phone charger into it.....that's what I've been using, works fine....anyway, when the little light had gone from orange to green the thing was working normally again....I think I'll search on Jasmine again for historical fiction some time today.....the pork chop was a good one, and I have one more like it.....this evening I might make "rice stuff"....with brown rice and sausage, instead of white rice and hamburger.....one more biscuit left too, and a little cornbread.....

Friday, February 3, 2012

NNE wind, back down in the 30s

this morning....mostly clear....and cold.....but the sun is shining into the living room.....I'll wait until later to walk some more, with the windchill below 40 it's just not much fun out....last night around bedtime it was still 58 on the front porch, but then the cold front came through later in the night.....finished off the pintos and cornbread yesterday, so today I can do a pork chop with dressing and peas for supper....that's pretty easy really, won't take much time to fix.....finished another library book, and almost finished a kindle library download.....didn't watch any Netflix last night for a change....

Thursday, February 2, 2012

more winter?

six more weeks of this weather would be OK.....today's predicted high is 69.....record high was 77 degrees in 1989.....54 on my early walk, overcast, damp from the rain in the middle of the night.....was raining when I went to bed about 10:30.....didn't watch much TV last night, was reading my library books, both hard-copy and kindle.....I might be lazy and just heat up leftovers from Wednesday today for supper.....yesterday's lunch was a boloney and cheese biscuit, with pickle and mayo....might do that again today, it was pretty tasty.....they got that grade crossing work finished, so Laurens St. is open at the tracks again, after about a week of the detour.....here around nine the sun is trying to burn through the clouds.....I should go out and walk some more I suppose.....didn't get any mail yesterday......

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

2/1/12

warmer today, some clouds.....rain after midnight they say.....went grocery shopping, going to have pintos with sausage over cornbread, a rice casserole, pork chops with stuffing.... for some of the meals this week.....got french bread pizza for maybe Super Bowl half-time....made a big batch of snax mix too, with dried fruit in it.....above I will post a photo of a new old guitar....spent most of the afternoon yesterday goofing around with that....the music shop dude is thinking of going out of business, so he is offering bargains....I hope he stays in business, since there isn't any other place in the county to buy strings.....that I know of.....guess there's always Amazon.....so right now I'm going to read the Clinton Chronicle, see if there's anything exciting in the local news....
