mostly sunny

some haze, no wind......high 70s predicted.....got one library book left to finish, and I've got a sea adventure going on kindle.....haven't seen the grocery ad yet, so I don't have any ideas for shopping tomorrow.....a curry might be possible.....beef or chicken.....yesterday morning was good for walking....not too hot, not too cold....should be like that today too....so I'll go walk the park and then probably drive over to Walmart area to look for a couple of things before lunch.....took a pretty good nap yesterday after lunch.....stayed up 'til after 10:30 reading last night and then slept well....was getting light before I woke up....

2" of rain over the weekend

never got past 55F Sunday.....today 55 is the predicted low, 73 the high.....was raining when I woke up, but on my early walk there was just fog and mist.....then there was light rain while I was reading the paper.....looks like I can walk in a few minutes OK, it has all gone East on the radar.....I have one chicken meal left which I might fix this evening, or I could do french bread pizza.....this was an oatmeal breakfast morning....with raisins, cocoa, nutmeg.....Wednesday bills will get paid for DSL, city utilities, and 6 months of car insurance.....and I'll go grocery shopping....all on May Day.....so there won't be any more April showers after that 'cause it will be May......

raining, kinda chilly

Saturday there was a break in the weather around lunch time so I could take a walk .....don't know if there will be any such break today or not....right now it doesn't look like it.....we'll be lucky to make it to 60 I think.....a damp and gloomy Sunday morning in general.....raining pretty loud at the moment.....last night I 'waved a Boston Market frozen meal.....meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy.....it was alright, for $2.50.....lots of potatoes.....so for Sunday supper back to chicken, rice, corn.....looks like today I'll just be reading and/or falling asleep on the sofa.....maybe play some guitar, some piano.....had pumpernickel french toast with rye whisky batter and two sausage links for breakfast.....lunch will be grilled Colby and corned-beef with onion.....right now I'll eat a Gala apple as a snack.....

Saturday, April 27, 2013

they were right

it's raining.....looks like a lot of it coming this way.....baseball games are getting shifted to other times ......Blue Hose split a double-header with Coastal Carolina yesterday over on campus.....Spring sports are free.....doubt if they sell beer though at their baseball field.....maybe they have hot dogs.....I'll have to decide later whether to have a cold sandwich with corned beef, Colby, pickles, mustard, mayo....or a hot sandwich of grilled corned beef and Colby on pumpernickel.....that'll be my big dilemma of the day.....Colby cheese is said to be good for grilled sandwiches 'cause of its lower melting point.....finished my Swedish thriller, so now I'm working on two sci-fi novels at the same time.....started watching an Irish drunk detective mini-series last night.....was warm out on the front porch as it was getting dark and the bats were coming out.....not many mosquitoes yet, or any lighting-bugs.....predictions are for rainy days at least through Wednesday.....

Friday, April 26, 2013

warmer days

but the nights are pretty cold 'cause of the low humidity.....but it will get more humid as the rain arrives through the weekend.....in the Greenville paper there's stuff going on like a big downtown BBQ contest, and the minor league baseball team has a 3 day homestand.....with a high chance of getting rained out, or at least rained on.....not my problem.....I'll just stay home anyway.....finished off the pot roast Thursday, can heat up chicken, rice, and maybe peas this evening......used up the chili dog sauce, so the last hot dog can be garnished with diced onion and BBQ sauce instead.....stayed up until 10:30 getting towards the end of a Swedish crime thriller, I guess you call it.....I'll finish that sometime today I imagine.....the mail has been coming really early this week, so I already got a new Guitar Player today....something to look at.....

Thursday, April 25, 2013

yesterday was normal

high of 75, low of 51.....that's normal and that's what it was yesterday.....today about 5 degrees below normal looks like.....cloudy early on, starting to burn off maybe.....I put oregano and a little curry powder on one side of the chicken pieces, and after half an hour at 350 turned them over and put on BBQ sauce for another half hour uncovered.....worked pretty good.....two hot dogs left, and then lunches can be Colby and corned beef on pumpernickel.....the sweet corn from Florida was OK.....probably be another month or so 'til you can get the picked-that-morning corn out of the back of a pick-up parked by the road......maybe I can finish off pot roast tonight.....there was just a short spell of rain last night.....rainy weekend predicted.....

busy morning

well, a busy morning for me....I was actually doing things.....went to the market, mowed the back lawn, took a shower since the mowing got me somewhat sweaty.....three things I guess.....by then it was eleven......going to fix BBQ chicken thighs iron skillet oven style .....do them all at once for several suppers.....Southern Home Dirty Rice will be the starch side.....Florida white corn-on-the-cob will be the starchy veggie side a couple of times....starch is carbs?  I think I can treat new corn as a legit veggie.....got a can of corned beef, and a sale price on Colby cheese.....pumpernickel bread from the bakery counter.....remembered paper napkins, apple cider vinegar, French roast coffee (big can).....good price on olive oil.....more eggs.....anyway.....now I have the weekly newspaper to read per usual.....weather is pretty mild, was cloudy but now that's coming and going.....rain still predicted for the end of the day....put a small load in the washing machine.....

Tuesday afternoon

Much nicer outside now..... 70 and sunny.....and it should be like this pretty much the rest of the week....more like Spring.....took a nap earlier in the afternoon.....just kicking back on the front porch now ......

still cold

39F and fair.....a warming trend should start as the wind shifts from NE to SW sometime today.....I'm thinking of doing the front yard this morning.....it's been a week.....dandelions are growing fast.....finished my pasta dish last night, I've got pot roast for today.....and then it's grocery day.....the ad came in the mail yesterday.....one thing is chicken legs and thighs .99/lb. ......and new corn four for a dollar.....got to remember paper napkins.....might need more coffee too.....switched off the TV after the evening news and was just going to read some more, but I had trouble keeping my eyes open....did finish the second book of a sci-fi trilogy.....and finished the detective novel too.....well, I guess the lawn won't mow itself.....the Tractor Supply ad had a riding mower for under a thousand.....

Monday, April 22, 2013

north wind still blowing

so it feels like below 40 outside......don't think I'll bother with any yard work, it'll keep.....sat out on the back porch steps a while Sunday afternoon.....sunshine there and less wind in the lee of the house.....otherwise I just stayed inside and read mostly......watched some TV in the evening.....don't think there's any Earth Day goings on around here .....nothing in the paper.....

Sunday, April 21, 2013

cold nights continue

on through the week looks like.....lows in the 40s, highs in the 60s until Wednesday when it might get to 70.....chance of rain tomorrow late.....some clouds this morning, and air moving from the colder N and W instead of the warmer S......still got plenty of leftovers for meals, enough until grocery day I imagine.....watched a 007 from '97 last night.....never seen it before, missed that one somehow.....Sheryl Crow did the song.....and I read sci-fi alternating with WWII detective most of the afternoon....took a nap too.....walked through downtown in the morning.....nothing much going on of course.....some folks had a group yard sale going over by the train tracks, but I didn't go over to look at it.....no money in my pocket anyway if I had seen something.....only saw a couple cars out when I went for the paper....and a train headed up from the coast, moving slow......

Saturday, April 20, 2013

chilly this morning

back to blue jeans and flannel shirt, at least through the weekend.....below normal temps......lots of rain yesterday as the front moved East.....watched a movie and then switched on the news just as they were closing out the bomber drama in Boston, capturing the second brother......and then read some until I got sleepy and went on to bed.....heated up some yellow squash as the veggie side to the hamburger-macaroni dish for supper.....made a tostado for lunch with the last of the beef and frijoles.....finished the first book of the sci-fi trilogy and started on the second.....should run the vacuum today I suppose.....I'm almost out of paper napkins.....

Friday, April 19, 2013

90% chance of precipitation

this afternoon...right now 68, cloudy, 14 mph South wind.....I can hear things blowing around out there.....supposed to get down into the 40s for a few nights, with highs in the 60s....when this front moves in from the West.....pot roast made for a good meal last evening.....so with leftover pot roast and leftover hamburger pasta I guess I won't have to cook very hard for a few days....just nuke things....chili dogs with onion and cheese for lunches, those are easy too....got bun length wieners this time.....got a sci-fi trilogy at the Laurens Library main branch while I was over there for banking and for the guitar store....saw cousin Emily working in there, said hello....watched a movie and read sci-fi until around 10:30 and then went to bed, slept pretty well.....guess I can go walk the park without getting rained on yet.....

Thursday, April 18, 2013

storms came through

late Wednesday afternoon and on into the evening.....rain and some thunder, but no bad winds.....should be nice today, but thunderstorms again on Friday.....staying 70 in the house day and night, with the HVAC turned off.....had pasta and salad again last night, and I've got the pot roast in the slow cooker already for today's supper.....I'm going to take a walk and then go over to Laurens and get a guitar string.....I broke a "G" the other day.....and today I'll get the bank to move a CD that matured yesterday into the money market account so those funds will be liquid.....I checked with the County about the Homestead Exemption, and I can't file for it until next year......it depends on what age you were on Dec. 31 of the previous tax year.....which is this year, or something.....anyway, a few things to do today.....

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

good price on chuck roast

so I got a small one and red potatoes, green pepper, Vidalia onion, generic cream of mushroom soup.....all for a crock pot roast tomorrow.....beautiful this morning, pleasant out with sunshine and blues skies.....they say there's a chance of a thunderstorm late afternoon....20%.....filled up the gas on the Jeep at $3.12 per.....got the Clinton paper.....right now I'm going to go walk over by the park.....chili cheese dogs for lunch this week.....

Tuesday, April 16, 2013

61 and cloudy

so in a few I'll go out and cut weeds in the backyard.....did the front Monday after lunch 'cause it was nice out for that.....found some library books in the morning, and got the trimmer line....they didn't have enchilada sauce at Fred's, so I got Prego with mushrooms and today I'll make a hamburger-pasta bake late afternoon....just had beef and bean tacos yesterday for supper....maybe this afternoon I'll go to Walmart for wine and Max Freeze, two things that are cheaper there....gas went down a dime this morning on the sign out front of the place where I get my paper.....shorts and T shirt weather for a few days looks like.....they've been resurfacing on 76 between Clinton and Laurens, so I might go the back way to Walmart....

Monday, April 15, 2013

missed here mostly

all that rain at the Masters stayed South of here, except for a little bit ......watched the last couple hours of the golf.....them in the pouring rain, snakes of blue and white umbrellas following the contenders from hole to hole.....rain drops loud in the TV speakers.....had my pizza and salad supper, today when I go to the library I'll look in Fred's down there for weed trimmer line.....and I think I can find enchilada sauce in there too.....use up the hamburger and the tortillas in enchilada pie today....can have pizza slice lunch......clouded over and 72 for today they say.....in the 50s for my early walk, pleasant looking morning......

Sunday, April 14, 2013

'bout like yesterday

as far as the weather goes this morning.....mid-50s right now, should be 70s before evening......and then the next rain gets here after midnight and maybe into Monday morning.....watched the Braves and Nationals Saturday afternoon.....Braves won, they are doing really well so far in the new season.....looks like the Padres are performing as usual too, from what I read in the paper.....watched a few minutes of the golf, do not really understand the Tiger penalty thing....might take another look this afternoon at Augusta, mainly for the scenery.....tacos and frijoles last night were tasty enough, will probably make taquitos for lunch today.....I have about half a pound of hamburger in the freezer that I can do something with soon, don't know what yet.....

Saturday, April 13, 2013

felt like mountain air

around sunrise this morning when I went for the paper.....crisp, dry, bright.....and the air overnight was moving here from the West, smelled like the forest.....should be somewhere in the 70s today, yesterday it was pushing 80......I'm part way through the last library book for this time.....tacos tonight I suppose, and maybe pizza and a salad for Sunday supper.....they should have good weather for the Masters looks like, advertising for the South.....

Friday, April 12, 2013

high humidity

was 68 and breezy when I went for the paper.....had just stopped raining....still clouded over.....lots of puddles yellow with pollen.....at least it rained hard enough to wash the pollen off the Jeep, I had to wipe the windshield with a rag before I could see to drive yesterday.....after two mexican food suppers I can go back to the mac-n-cheese leftovers tonight I suppose, use that up.....spent $6.42 for a Big Mac Meal birthday lunch, today back to ham salad on rye......should get busy at finishing my library books before Monday morning.....I need more string for the weed-eater, I can get that at Fred's Discount next to the library......weeds are in season looks like.....the wisteria is blooming outside the bedroom window, I should take a picture.....

Thursday, April 11, 2013

64, cloudy

and I'm 65 and befuddled.....now certified Senior status.....was mid-80s Wednesday, but with the front coming this way should be somewhere in the 70s today.....the rain is predicted for tonight, or wee hours of Friday.....with high winds likely and thunder.....switched from jeans to shorts yesterday, should be warm enough for those today too .....fixed some killer tacos last night, today will have giant tostada for birthday supper.....one slice of pumpernickel left for a lunch sandwich....probably ham salad....I'll go on the park walk in a few minutes.....after watching Justified and then the first part of Hatfields and McCoys I'm glad I don't live up in them hollers......too many folks get shot up there.....

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

walking, groceries

beautiful morning.....some green pollen gettin all over everything, but that goes with the territory.....shirtsleeve walking weather.....got stuff for mexican food at the store, and a frozen pizza.....got a birthday card from Dave&Tree....and one from my Allstate agent....got to pay him for car insurance next month.....and I got the gas bill, $75....which is better than the $100 last month anyway....left windows open overnight, it's about 65 in the house....should mop the kitchen after lunch in this low humidity so the floor will dry quicker maybe.....got Gala apples this time, and seeded rye bread.....will make guacamole before suppertime.....

Tuesday, April 9, 2013

7-11?

I read in the paper that 7-11 has bought up the Hickory Point chain of gas station/quick marts.....I think there's 2 or 3 of those close by .....so californication advances.....now if they would just bring back Jack around here.....put the white hat and goatee on him in an ad campaign, add fried chicken to the menu.....anyway, should be low 80s today, got a couple windows open.....finished off the scalloped potatoes last night....stayed up until around 12 watching the basketball.....have ham loaded mac-n-cheese for leftovers yet.....made more ham salad yesterday.....this time with honey mustard instead of curry powder in with the mayo.....that works.....international news shows last night were nothing but Baroness Thatcher, so I switched to Justified early and watched two episodes.....sat out on the porch as the sun went down.....basketball didn't start 'til after full dark.....so the area got some sports revenue from the Final Four I imagine, and will get more later in the week from the Masters.....doubt if much of that trickles down to Clinton though.....nice walking conditions....birds singing, stuff blooming, etc.....

Monday, April 8, 2013

big difference

last week I was freezing on the early walk, today I ended up sweating.....Spring is finally in evidence after some delay.....should be in the 70s now for a while.....only problem is the warm weather will keep the weeds growing up real quick, creating more yard work.....dandelions, etc.....pollen season is starting.....doesn't usually bother me too much, but I guess it knocks some folks down.....and tornado season is going to be bad in April and May they say.....well, nothin' you can do about it....played banjo a lot yesterday, I'd put new strings on it a while back.....two library books to finish this week, and I have a Kerr novel on kindle.....still working on ham leftovers, need to think of something new for grocery day.....maybe another taco week is coming.....

Sunday, April 7, 2013

fried ham and french toast

for Sunday breakfast.....maybe these low clouds will burn off later and it will end up nice out like yesterday......now they are saying 50% chance of thunderstorms Thursday, my birthday.....but it should still be in the 70s......37 this morning early on, but stayed warm enough in the house overnight that the heater wasn't needed....had a couple of windows open during the day for a change and the house got some warm air in it.....plus running the oven a bit might have helped too.....made a mac-n-cheese ham bake.....small elbow mac, diced ham, diced onion, leftover cream style corn, a jar of Ragu Double Cheddar sauce, parmesan-romono and seasoned bread crumbs on top.....1/2 hr. at 350 to get it bubbly and a little crunchy 'round the edge.....leftovers from that for a couple more times looks like.....but Sunday supper can be french bread pizza and spinach salad, instead of leftovers I think....finished off my curried ham salad for Saturday lunch, but might make another batch of that....lunch today can just be another grilled ham and swiss on pumpernickel.....I read in the Greenville paper about a guy who had a hot-dog cart, but who has now opened Downtown Dogs I think it's called .....anyway, one thing the article mentioned was a Rueben dog.....homemade sauerkraut, swiss, thousand island....sounds good.....somebody came by late yesterday afternoon and mowed the vacant lot next door....looks nice....

Saturday, April 6, 2013

bright looking morning

maybe the clouds will stay away today......no rain predicted until Thursday.....NCAA BB is on this evening, something to look at besides streamed movies.....have to turn the sound off though, or the commercials will drive me nuts.....had scalloped potatoes and a spinach salad for Friday supper.....I might make mac-n-cheese with ham today, or I might think of something else.....finished a Russian revolution novel ......on Saturdays I usually walk over by the square instead of over by the park, can do that in a few minutes....it's mid-40s out, should be nice enough on the sunny side of the street....I think I slept through until dawning....don't remember getting up anytime anyway....

Friday, April 5, 2013

better today maybe

Thursday was cold and raining......every time I stepped out on the front porch I just turned around and went back inside.....today I could walk for the paper, bundled up in Winter wraps.....still 37 windchill around 9:30 in the morning.....so maybe the park walk later if it warms up some.....sunshine and no clouds, but a North wind is blowing....there's a lot of scalloped potatoes left, and those are one of those things that always taste even better reheated.....so I'll have that this evening again I guess.....can either have ham salad sandwich again for lunch, or maybe grilled ham and swiss on rye with onion and honey mustard.....so I just read all day pretty much while it was raining....and took a nap.....got plenty of reading material.....it snowed again in the mountains, so the wind is coming down off of icy conditions still.....

Thursday, April 4, 2013

Fall conditions

actually late Fall verging on Winter again.....that's what the weatherman said last night.....the seasons are all screwed up.....I imagine Congress is to blame.....39 windchill right now.....100% chance of rain today and tomorrow.....drove to get the morning paper.....but I did get out yesterday and cut the grass out back, got something done in that regard.....finished off beans and rice, might do the scalloped potatoes this afternoon.....use the oven to help heat the house.....might get up to 50 today outside.....so not much walking going to get done I don't think, the bands of rain blanket the radar all the way down to the Gulf.....but it might be nice by my birthday in a week.....78 predicted for Masters at Augusta down the road from here that weekend?  So if you want to see what it's like 'round here, watch the golf some, see how Tiger does.....I made a good ham salad sandwich for lunch yesterday.....the ham salad was my favorite at D'Elias.....

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

miserable cold NE wind

and it was so nice yesterday for yard work.....was going to try to finish that today but it might be too nasty out....maybe it will warm up some in the afternoon....was 75 Tuesday, and they are saying 45 and rain Thursday....maybe 60 today.....finished off black-eyed peas yesterday, still have red beans and rice for today.....and at the store I got fixings for scalloped potatoes and mac-n-cheese.....both with ham....cream corn for curried cream corn....mayo for curried ham salad sandwiches......and I suppose a curried ham and macaroni salad could be featured in a lunch or supper.....got CA burgundy for two weeks.....so hot dish suppers looks like mostly.....maybe by Sunday when it's back in the 70s a salad supper.....

Tuesday, April 2, 2013

yard work

I did start doing yard work yesterday.....spent around an hour and a half with the hedge trimmer and picking up the trimmings and other debris and taking it to the curb.....they should pick it up today, Tuesday being yard debris day in mill village.....this morning I think I'll try to get the front yard done, what you can see from the street.....weed-eating and mowing.....and maybe I'll do the sides and back Wednesday.....Thursday a cold snap with 70% chance of rain is predicted.....I fixed red beans and rice with ham, garlic, onion, greens for supper.....today can be leftover cornbread and black-eyed peas.....I cleaned the ham off the bone .....ended up with plenty of meat for another week looks like......scalloped potatoes with ham.....curried ham salad lunch sandwiches.....I'll need to get more mayo tomorrow for that.....is there a ham-based pasta dish?

Monday, April 1, 2013

rained in the night

but it should clear off later and get into the 70s again......there were a number of cars yesterday afternoon at the neighbor's house on Washington....must have been a big Easter dinner going on....they were out cleaning up their yard Saturday....but I still haven't started on yard-work yet.....it's damp out there right now.....I guess I could at least pick up sticks that have fallen in the winds lately, take 'em to the curb.....I'll think about it.....had fried ham, eggs over easy, and grits with red gravy for supper yesterday.....watched the two basketball games.....saw the horrible broken leg accident.....how does that  happen?  you just come down wrong on it somehow?  didn't watch any movies later, read some instead....got a Guitar Player the other day in the mail, been finding things to read in there too.....
