same as yesterday morning

freezing.....but sunny.....walked the park after lunch yesterday, it was still chilly.....might get into the low 50s again today.....wind is blowing over icy mountains to get here.....did the chicken leg quarters 45 minutes covered at 350 in the iron skillet, and then turned them over and did 15 minutes more uncovered to crispy up the skin some.....used up the last of a bag of noodles, and remains of containers of alfredo sauce and sour cream to make a pasta side, and the other side was cut corn.  So maybe tomorrow I'll have a repeat of that, with today being pan-fried country ham slice, biscuit and gravy, corn.....used up oatnut loaf and deli roast beef for Wednesday lunch.....chili dogs return on the mid-day menu.....got pumpernickel for breakfast toast this week.....another French movie last night, with one of those endings that really didn't tie everything up.....at least as far as I could tell.....

clear, bright, windchill 0 degrees C

yesterday the temp range was low 33, high 43.....I stepped out on the front porch a couple of times, but came back inside real quick.....so they say Thursday and Friday will be like today.....near freezing at night and highs in the 50s.....and then "chance of rain and snow showers" Saturday.....I diced up some onion and some deli roast beef, browned that a little and added beans.....heated that up and put it on toast for supper.....good enough.....not much to inspire in the grocery ads......chicken leg quarters .99/lb.....might look at those.....need OJ this week, and bread....got enough apples.....see what they have  out for pork chops maybe.....well, I'll go do that now.....

light snow/wintry mix?

there's a couple of reports like that from weather stations in the county right around first light this morning.....but here all I saw was cold wet rain..... felt like below freezing though when I drove over for the paper.....rain coming down pretty hard, cold wind again today.....it says today should end up "much warmer" than Monday....it wouldn't take much to accomplish that, it stayed dang cold yesterday all day.....we'll see if it gets out of the 40s or not later.....I guess it started coming down around midnight....the lot next door has a pond in the middle when I look out the bathroom window.....so finished off the ribs, with baked potato and cole slaw sides.....lunch was something different.....a corned beef hash and fried egg sandwich with a little honey-mustard on oatnut toast.....is there any sandwich shop with that on the menu?  watched a movie I guess was from Israel last night....Russian gangsters again, they are everywhere it seems......still following the story of Cicero on kindle......his slave Tiro invented stenography, that's why we have many of Cicero's Senate speeches.....

clouded over, cold north wind

36F windchill....the rain is staying south of here right now, but there's a 70% chance this afternoon or evening.....it got up to 65 Sunday afternoon, I went walking some around the downtown.....corned beef hash with egg and cheese, buttery oatnut toast, glass of wine was supper.....today I can do the other half of the ribs.....then I might be down to something like beans on toast for Tuesday.....actually beans on toast is pretty good.....something they fixed in England during the Blitz.....I could kick it up a notch with some thin slices of the deli roast beef.....or I have a can of Progresso split-pea soup...."flavored with ham" it says.....but I can save that 'til after I get some cornbread to have with it.....they go good together.....I got the next book after Imperium via Whispernet or whatever they call it so I read the start of that last night.....

foggy

maybe some sun is starting to burn through.....fog came up last night before bedtime.....so it should be warmer today they say, 40s yesterday 60s today.....I pounded the second piece of strip steak with garlic and cooked it in olive oil, with the beans and slaw sides.....today I'll do corned beef hash with an egg on top.....I watched the first half of GA-SC men's basketball.....it was terrible, it looked like there was an alien force field over the rims or something.....either team would throw up a shot and it would just go flying off somewhere.....then I read in the paper this morning it went into overtime, and the Bulldogs won.....watched some French action movie last night.....watch enough of those and you might realize that you don't have to read the subtitles all the time....you start learning some French.....it stayed cold and damp all day Saturday, so all the walking I got done was for the paper in the morning.....maybe I'll do a second walk today if it does get into the 60s....

VTOL

I posted that thing on fb about the helicopter plane.....reminded me of the time I went camping in the Mojave and I was just sitting there in the afternoon drinking a beer and this noise comes up from the end of the valley...and three Ospreys from some Marine base out there come roaring flying damned close to the ground.....like under the radar or something.....I was the only person out there for miles around....I stood up and waved my arms, and got a wing waggle from the third one.....they looked awesome.....

waterfalls

the storm drains sounded like waterfalls this morning when I walked for the paper.....it was drumming down on the roof when I first got up, but it stopped for my walk.....part of the way I walked in the street, 'cause the sidewalk was under water....you can do that on a Saturday morning since there aren't any cars on the road.....or hardly any....drizzle again right now, that might keep coming and going for a while but the main storm is between here and the coast now.....my iron-skillet spare-ribs have developed into an art form....well, they hit the spot anyway, tasted good to me and achieved the proper doneness.....so today can be steak platter again.....yesterday lunch was deli-sliced roast beef melt with swiss and oatnut loaf and a little grilled sweet onion.....a pepper and some corn chips...glass of merlot....finished Imperium in the afternoon and bought a sci-fi book for the kindle.....slept well with the rain on the roof.....the City bill came and I paid it....so when I pay for DSL the first week of next month than that's all the bills for this month.....

cold rain

32F windchill....might get up around 40 today, yesterday was a "normal" 58.....I think the bulk of the front has moved through here, but there's lots of cold unstable air behind it so I don't now if I'll get out much walking today.....my New York strip steak platter last night hit the spot....slaw and "grilling beans" as the sides....onion and honey mustard on the little piece of steak.....last of the pot roast in a sandwich for Thursday lunch.....this afternoon I'll fire up the oven and do St. Louis style ribs and baked potato....I have one of those .99 things of sour cream.....I think I'll have slaw as the second veggie.....the rain during the night served as a sleep inducement, which is a good thing.....finished a kindle book yesterday, a historical novel set in Charles Town at the beginning of the Revolution....maybe the first book in a sea-story series, I'm not sure.....

Thursday, February 21, 2013

still rather brisk

clear, bright, below freezing.....but tonight rain moves in and continues 70-90% chance into Saturday morning as the big front that been dumping snow from west to east gets close to here.....walked in the afternoon yesterday, still had to bundle up.....finished off the noodles.....today's supper can be strip steak, ranch beans, cole slaw.....there's enough for two meals like that....and there's two meals worth of spare-ribs, baked potato, cut corn.....and then there's corned beef hash, and split-pea soup.....I was out of mustard, and there was a close-out price on honey mustard, so I got that.....one other time I bought a close-out mustard and it had horse-radish AND wasabi in it....no wonder it was closed out....but I got used to it and used it all up eventually....used some honey mustard yesterday at lunch, on toasted oatnut bread with onion, swiss cheese, and deli-sliced roast beef....and mayo.....got the oatnut loaf this week 'cause it was at a good price and because I didn't see my kind of rye on the shelf right then.....no movie last night, was reading the Cicero novel....with Pompey, Julius C., guys like that in it....

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

icy

28F and clear around sunrise, still only 32 out now close to 9 am......but the sun is shining, some thin clouds.....so I'm off to the market in a couple of minutes, see what there is to eat this week.....I need bread and butter.....I think the ad had strip steaks at a good price.....and I should stop at the gas station....the pot roast is about gone, maybe enough left for a sandwich.....could make another supper out of the noodles I suppose.....still have lots of swiss cheese.....need eggs.....and wheat thins.....walked in the afternoon yesterday after it warmed up a bit, can do that again today.....saw a movie last night about cops in LA that didn't have a car chase in it....that was odd....

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

36 and rain

it says 36 and rain in Coos Bay too......up catty-corner across the country.....in the mountains a little north of here it's sleet and snow predicted.....so doesn't look like a good day for walking so far, drove over to get my newspaper.....but the sun might come out in the afternoon if this front goes on through....my hamburger alfredo pasta last night worked OK, some leftovers from that....and, yes, there is a page of hamburger alfredo pasta recipes if you google that.....pretty simple really.....lunch Monday was a beef melt sandwich with swiss and rye.....leftover pot roast featured in the beef role of course.....didn't look for a movie last night after Bally K, read a library book instead....."a novel of ancient Rome".....damp and dreary outside, so I'm burning energy inside to try to warm and cheer things up.....you can hear that it's still raining pretty good....

Monday, February 18, 2013

20s again around sunrise

another clear and frosty morning.....I saw a truck pulling a trailer with a mower on it covered with snow....did they just come down from the mountains?  Today I can make that pasta dish I got the jar of alfredo sauce for.....I guess school is out today.....but not the Pharmacy School, cars were there.....80% chance of rain tomorrow ....it rained last Wednesday  when I went for groceries as I remember....I'll get gas this week too when I go shopping, gas prices have gone up twenty cents in the last couple weeks I think.....maybe more than that.....I have a bottle of Heet I can pour in the tank, since the freezing is expected to continue a while longer.....

Sunday, February 17, 2013

still some snow on the jeep

when I went out for the newspaper shortly after sunrise.....icy patches on the street and sidewalks, snow lingering in shady places.....just little spots of that left.....the report is that there was .5" Saturday morning, and then 1" in the afternoon.....in the 20s here so far this morning.....black ice on bridges warning continues until noon.....I had pot roast last night with a piece of buttered rye toast to sop up juices.....I might make huevos rancheros this evening doing the Sunday breakfast for supper thing.....the pot roast tacos made a tasty lunch yesterday.....I can't find anything about trash pick-up tomorrow on President's Day......the slip for my library books says the 18th as the return date, so maybe this holiday doesn't count as one around here.....sunny and bright but the heater is running with it staying below freezing out.....I was out driving during the first snow flurry yesterday, haven't done that in a long time.....

Saturday, February 16, 2013

canadian air mass

it's 36F, and that might be the high for the day.....I think it started raining about 5:30 this morning, and it's predicted to turn into snow in the afternoon as the colder air keeps pushing down....so I drove over to get my morning paper, and probably won't get out of the house much at all today....yesterday I could front porch sit in the sunshine, eating pecans.....for lunch I had that pot roast sandwich on rye toast with pickles....today I might make a pot roast taco for lunch, I still have some tortillas.....probably leftovers for supper today, or if I feel like it I have ground beef, alfredo sauce, half a jar of sliced mushrooms, garlic, onion, and whole wheat noodles that could make for a pasta meal.....too bad there's no football games to watch on a dark damp afternoon....there is college basketball I suppose....or just take a nap after lunch like yesterday.....

Friday, February 15, 2013

clear and cold

no clouds at all this morning, still 32F though and frost....might get to 61 this afternoon, and then the jet stream delivers a freezing blast so Saturday and Sunday will have lows perhaps in the 20s and highs remaining in the 40s.....the newspaper has a chance of snow showers for this event.....the pot roast is hearty and appetizing, with leftovers of course.....I'm thinking cold pot roast on rye with a little mayo for lunch.....it looks nice for walking outside right now, but it's still awfully nippy....so if the Jeep isn't frozen I guess I'll make a Walmart run now and then see if it's warmer after lunch for the walk.....didn't drive it yesterday, so I should at least warm it up today.....the natural gas bill for January came, $100.82.....I'll pay that after my SS comes in on Wednesday.....

Thursday, February 14, 2013

brighter morning

broken clouds, frosty, calm wind.....32F just after sunrise.....it's getting light earlier....I like that I think....I've got the crock-pot roast going, put it on before I went for the paper so it should be good and done by suppertime.....I ate a large portion of the enchilada pie yesterday.....might eat the rest as a lunch some day.....last night I watched Skyfall.....a good 007 movie in my opinion.....purchased a 24 hour license to watch from Amazon for $4....in HD on the Roku box.....so I guess I could watch it again this morning if I really wanted to....but I see no need to do that, I already know what happens....yesterday afternoon was OK for walking....I walked over by downtown instead of over in the park direction to avoid the crowd and traffic at the corner of Bailey and Academy for USDA second Wednesday food day.....nothing much shakin' downtown, as usual.....there was a little drizzle while I was out, but it didn't bother me in my wool cap and ski jacket....I think I remembered everything at the store in the morning, for a change.....

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

once again

it rained all night but let up when I wanted to walk for the newspaper.....cold and ugly out though....and by the time I was ready to go grocery shopping it was raining again....so I'll sit inside and read the Clinton paper 'cause its too nasty out to walk now.....had french bread pizza for Tuesday supper.....today I got a small can of enchilada sauce and a can of pintos to make enchilada pie with beans....finish off my mexican week leftovers that way.....and then they had a good price on chuck roast, so I'll do a crock-pot with that and red potatoes, holland onions, and onion soup mix.....that will make sandwiches too for lunches.....I got New York rye this week, and Swiss cheese was on sale too....so today I can break the chain of taco lunch and have grilled swiss on rye.....watched a Japanese movie last night.....went to sleep to the sound of the rain....

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

forty-five degrees

Lincoln's birthday......mostly cloudy at sunrise, might rain in the afternoon and on and off through Wednesday.....seasonable temperatures.....it was raining some when I drove to the store yesterday to buy an avocado.....so I could make guacamole .....used some of that in my lunch rolled tacos, and some more on top of my "giant tostada" supper platter.....the sticker said the avocado was from Mexico ....it was just ripe.....right now the storm system is sagging to the south-east of here, so I guess I can go walk the park and stay dry OK.....it rained too much yesterday to get that walk done.....

Monday, February 11, 2013

a lull in the storm

let me walk to get the paper.....it was still raining as I was eating breakfast, but it had stopped by the time I went out the door.....plenty of rain during the night, still might rain more today.....but it's from the South, so it's a warm front....might get to mid 60s later today.....and then the cold front will assert itself, to bring wind and rain from the other direction as the week goes along.....so far this has been the wettest Winter in three years around here......lake level up six feet.....so new moon on Monday, Fat Tuesday, Ash Wednesday, etc.....wet Mardi Gras.....had beef and cheese rolled tacos for Sunday lunch, probably be the same today.....and some taco variation for supper, maybe a tostada platter.....another one of those foreign movies last night where I ended up not sure what just happened....guess that makes it easy on the screen writers, if they can't decide how to do a scene they just leave it out and figure the viewer can make of it what he wants.....

Sunday, February 10, 2013

cold, but not freezing

36 degrees early on.....100% chance of rain tonight and on into Monday morning.....doesn't look like it's going to turn out sunny like it did yesterday.....I made taco salad for Saturday supper, that was good.....still plenty of taco meat prepared for more meals.....brandy batter pumpernickel french toast and two sausage links for Sunday breakfast.....messed around with guitars and piano a lot in the afternoon, had the taco salad, then fell asleep sitting on the sofa until around seven when I decided it was too late to look for a news broadcast so I just watched Bally K and then the third mariachi movie.....got to bed about eleven.....I might have the tortilla soup tonight.....

Saturday, February 9, 2013

friday taco nite

just like thursday taco nite.....that's OK, I made really good tacos....good enough anyway.....it was nice most of yesterday, could sit out on the edge of the front porch and crack pecans.....but later in the day it clouded over some and got chilly by the evening.....cold this morning, 28 windchill on the dawn patrol....I might crank the Jeep up and drive out to Ora in a few minutes, and then walk in the afternoon if it warms up.....it's still 34F outside now.....I didn't get much reading done yesterday, just couldn't get into it for some reason.....took an early afternoon nap instead of reading after lunch....sleeping on the sofa makes my back stiff though, so I have to stretch my lumbar some and then sort of stagger around until things get worked out.....it should be more warmish for a couple of days, and then a rainy middle of the week is predicted.....

Friday, February 8, 2013

was raining still at bedtime

so the sound put me to sleep right quick and I slept well....got a lot of rain late yesterday, puddles around this morning.....was in the 40's....should be in the 60's today....mostly cloudy, but will probably clear off in the afternoon.....I went whole hog on the taco platter....three beef tacos, improvised spanish rice, and refried beans.....plenty to eat.....watched some strange Hungarian movie last night, 'til almost 10:30.....the weather system that was here has gone up North where they are going to call it a blizzard maybe....did snow some in the mountains near here as it went through....I guess it will be all right for more walking today, didn't get that done yesterday 'cause it was dripping and chilly after lunch....all the Texas Pete is used up, so the last dog will have no chili, just cheese, onion.....mustard or BBQ sauce.....and then on to taco lunches for a while.....

Thursday, February 7, 2013

dark, chilly, rain likely

and it was so nice yesterday.....front porch weather.....my early walk looks like it will be my only walk today, 'cause theres a whole bunch of activity headed this way right now on the radar.....all across GA and beyond it's storming.....I ate up leftovers out of the fridge last night, so today I can cook the taco meat.....ground beef, cilantro, onion, crushed olives, chili powder.....I've got lettuce and cheese, and beans and rice for sides.....that will be the basic menu for a few days I guess.....tortilla soup one day too, things like that.....taquitos for lunches.....I got a jar of salsa....have a little sour cream I can use up....PC men won a home basketball game last night.....a Big South game I guess.....and I just read online that there was a fire yesterday afternoon a block from here in the old mill facility where there's a company that packages up sawdust as bedding for horse stables.....sparks from the conveyor belt caught the stuff on fire....but they put it out pretty quick....the fire station is just two blocks the other way from here.....I guess there were some sirens once ......

Wednesday, February 6, 2013

sausage grits

with a little syrup on 'em....for breakfast since I'm out of eggs and oatmeal.....but it's grocery day so I can fix that.....might be Taco Week for me, eatin' beans as it were....got up to 64 yesterday, might do that again today.....rain predicted Thursday night, maybe an inch from a storm that's down in Texas right now.....did laundry yesterday.....walked after lunch.....wasn't freezing at sunrise for a change, was a few degrees above it.....so the sun is out so far this morning and it should be a fairly nice day.....I still have 3 chili dogs left, and then I can eat taco lunch for a while.....see what they want for a head of lettuce......

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

should be a warmer day

maybe ten degrees warmer predicted.....but still below freezing on my sunrise walk again today.....sunnier right now than it was this time Monday.....the stroganoff was very good and filling.....a handful of noodles was enough for one meal.....after my nightly installment of Bally K, I finished a novel instead of watching some movie.....when I walked yesterday afternoon it was still dang cold, maybe it will be nicer after lunch today for that.....the wind is going to be more from the south, that should help.....there's some debris blown off the trees out back, one of these days I'll have to clean all that up and take it to the curb.....not today, maybe next week.....should I do a good house-cleaning for the lunar new year?

Monday, February 4, 2013

Three dollars a litre

One theory is that the Cabernet sauvignon vine originated in Spain.....while I was in Walmart I got a box of Franzia for $15, tasty stuff....says on it product of Spain....by way of California?  Great with a chili dog....

super monday

30 degrees, clouded over.....but at least the wind isn't blowing like it was.....I don't see what the fuss is about super bowl commercials, I didn't see anything really clever or humorous.....and that half-time thing was just a garbled mess.....does that person really have hit songs?  I couldn't name one.....the lights going out was the most entertaining part .....it kept me up late to see the end, so I slept pretty well....I'm going to go over to Walmart to look for a couple of things this morning.....I've got a little steak and some noodles....if I got some sour cream and some mushrooms I could make stroganoff....might do that, or might just eat leftovers again tonight.....I guess it would be possible to make a small amount of stroganoff so there wouldn't be leftovers from that too....I have garlic and onion  already.....it looks like it will stay fairly cold but dry this week until near the end when there's some chance of rain.....Chinese New Year coming up soon....

Sunday, February 3, 2013

storm got here after dark

Saturday evening.....wind and cold rain in this area, lots of snow in the mountains they say.....clear and frosty again this morning......the wind is going to kick up again later today.....that's the warning anyway.....I might have french bread pizza this evening, or maybe chicken dinner.....with the game starting at 6:30 it should be over around 10?  but they have an extra long half-time I think.....one famous groundhog saw it's shadow, but the other well known one didn't.....so roller-coaster weather will probably continue.....Tigers, Gamecocks, and Blue Hose all lost games yesterday.....Clinton Red Devils lost Friday night, after having won earlier in the week.....so I'm not sure where they sit now as regards post-season.....they had a half-marathon downtown Clinton yesterday morning, 50 runners in the freezing weather.....it had finished and they were clearing things away when I went for a walk around 11:30.....it was sponsored by Cross Fitness, which is in an old warehouse right there by the train tracks.....right across the street from the Curb Market Snack Bar....I bet they got some breakfast business from the event....hot coffee sales anyway.....somebody was riding a horse by the tracks, don't know if that had anything to do with the foot race.....

Saturday, February 2, 2013

hard frost,but clear and calm

21F for the sunrise walk, but at least that wind has stopped for a while.....there were a bunch of cars in that one lot by the train tracks where they stage bike rides and walk-runs.....don't remember what it is today....a motorcycle trooper was there, maybe a bike race escort.....there are only 15 motorcycle state troopers in the whole state.....they move around from county to county to surprise bad drivers.....that's what it said in the paper....last night I had chicken, generic rice-er-roni, and the last of the succotash....for lunch I put a spoonful of Texas Pete Chili Dog Sauce on the last piece of meatloaf and warmed that up in the microwave to make my sandwich.....tasty....maybe next time I make meatloaf I'll get a can of the Texas Pete to put on top while it bakes.....so today I guess I'll have a chili dog lunch, and tuna-noodle supper....I should drive the Jeep some after the sun has been on it for a while, what with these sub-freezing nights.....both Clemson and USC have basketball games on Upstate TV this afternoon, at over-lapping times.....Clinton boy's basketball is in 4th place in Region, so they are still in the hunt for the play-offs.....

Friday, February 1, 2013

wind won't stop blowing

all day yesterday, and again today.....windchill of 32 right now.....high of 46 maybe later this afternoon....but it's clear and sunny .....double digit wind speeds though.....that was a good artichoke....I mixed curry powder and mayo for the dip.....might use the last of the meatloaf in a sandwich for lunch today......I have that deli chicken I can heat some of with a box rice mix and mixed veggies as sides for today.....does that sentence make any sense?  Saturday is Groundhog Day, Sunday is Super Bowl....an exciting weekend in store....I vote for less Winter, 'cause this wind is getting on my nerves.....it's OK to root for the commie pinko fag bayarea football team 'cause the punter is from some high school around here......
