didn't realize it had been raining this morning

until I went out the back door with the kitchen trash.....between rain and muggy heat I haven't been getting much walking done lately, or much yard work either......and it looks like I even forgot this Report a couple days.....just plain lazy and hazy, fuzzy-minded......well, Dave and Tree should be at their campsite up in the Smoky Mountains I suppose, or maybe still enroute ........I cleaned some gross stuff out of the fridge before I took out the trash, but still have lots of things in there that need attention.....black beans and rice, cold grocery store fried chicken.....used some country sausage with my french toast breakfast this morning......it's staying cool in the house so far today.....with ceiling fans going in whichever room I'm in at the time......now I think I hear more rain ......I have enough avocado left for another turkey lunch sandwich......with hearts of romaine for lettuce on it too.....can probably nap some after lunch, not much energy for doing anything else.....got plenty of reading material, and I've been finding some Prime movies to watch before bedtime......was nice out on the porch last night between the end of the movie and full dark......

heat index 95 later today predicted

I fixed black beans and rice with onion and hamburger added, and hearts of romaine salad with blue cheese dressing....hadn't bought any of that in years.....but I forgot a few things Wednesday when I was in the grocery store.....like olive oil, and apple cider vinegar.....so maybe I can get it right this morning on a Walmart trip.....get a bag of ice over there too.....it's just too muggy to get out and run the weed eater and mower.....maybe there will be a breeze Friday morning, like last Friday.....I've got a package of smoked turkey breast for lunch sandwiches.....I'll look at Walmart avocados if I can find them.....suffering brain drain in this weather, or maybe it's just more senility.....forget to do things, or can't remember if I forgot them or not.......just comes with the territory I guess.....the land of the lost.....

If there were more of a breeze I might go walking....but it was about like this yesterday when I went to walk the park, and it was really too muggy to be pleasant......I could use the exercise on the one hand, while on the other hand, the elderly should be careful of heat exhaustion sneaking up on you .....even under seemingly benign conditions......they say you are only as old as you feel....well, I feel elderly a lot lately......had hamburger steak with grilled Vidalia onion for Monday supper, with veggie sides of an ear of corn and a pile of slaw.....tonight might be sausage and egg scramble, grits.....then shopping day again.....I heard the mailman a while ago, I should go see if the ads are in the mailbox.....yes, grocery ad and something from an insurance agency.....

more or less sweltering Sunday afternoon late

so I turned on the AC for a while......77 mostly cloudy this morning......patty melt worked for supper yesterday, but now I'm out of cheese......hmm, the City bill just came in the mail.....about 40 bucks worth of electricity for 5/16 to 6/19.....not too bad.....I should get out and go for a walk before it gets any warmer......

no blog yesterday

I was busy.....mowed the back lawn and did laundry.....and Dave and Tree came by for GotoMeeting with the Santa Barbara brothers.....and we got my Weber kettle out of the shed and grilled some really good sweet corn from a local roadside produce stand.....and hot dogs....they had vegan, I had BallPark....I got pretty sweaty going for the paper early on.....bright sun and more humid than the last few days.....but now it's overcast and staying in the 70s so far.....at 4:30 in the morning I was in the kitchen getting a drink of water, and I could see the full moon shining big and bright.....but by the Eastern Daylight Time of the "Supermoon" at 7:32, it was daylight and the moon was behind the trees out the kitchen window anyway.....I still have an awful lot of cole slaw to consume.....have to work on that over the next few days......should do something with ground beef for supper, got plenty of that too....like a pumpernickel patty melt with grilled onions and Swiss cheese.....I think there's swiss left in the fridge somewhere.....I'm going real slow today for some reason, but I don't have any hard schedule to adhere to so I'll continue slow and easy.....

feel better today

yesterday I felt somewhat dragged-out and listless.....some clouds are helping keep it cooler so far this morning.....had pulled pork on a whole wheat sub roll and slaw for Wednesday supper.....sat out on the porch until 9:30 last night, talking with a neighbor......pretty nice out that time of evening.....should go for another walk if I can work up the gumption.....

happened again

as soon as I put my boots on to go out to the shed and get the lawnmower, it started to rain.....rained a good bit around sunrise, I got some raindrops on me when I went to get the paper, but didn't get soaked or anything.....down at the grocery store it looked like maybe that side of town got more then this side....there were puddles in the streets and parking lots......so I should quit stressing about cutting down the weeds .....maybe Thursday or Friday I can get things done.....I did get the kitchen mopped, that's something anyway......

Tuesday morning

went down Monday afternoon to visit with Dave and Tree at the RV park.....nice place.....later after I was back home a thundershower went through.....I made tacos of steak, potato, onion, avocado for my supper.....Tree had made a lunch of cous-cous, with veggies.....they are plotting how to get a good spot somewhere in the Blue Ridge by the 4th of July four day weekend.....there's a thunderstorm heading this way on the radar, so I'm going to ignore lawn mowing for yet another day, and just drive over to Walmart instead this morning......some day the weeds will get cut I hope.....I can have a Spam and avocado sandwich for lunch......

not too muggy yet today.....shouldn't get terribly hot later.....Dave and Tree are down in an RV park maybe 15 minutes from here, I'll go  visit after lunch sometime.....watched the final few holes of the US Open Sunday evening....it was on instead of any local newscast.....that whole thing looks like pure insanity to me.....I guess they make lots of money at it though.....the winner got like 1.5 million, the 2 guys who tied for second got around 700K each, and Tiger Woods was tied with a bunch of others for 32nd place....those folks all got 47K each.......what a deal....

mild morning

64F when I went out walking, nice breeze too.....not as humid.....might be "pop-up" showers towards the end of the day, and then increasing rain chances into Monday......might fix steak tacos either for lunch or dinner.....forgot to turn on the Angels' game, but they won it says in the paper.....so library tomorrow.....maybe I can crock-pot the pork I have left into pulled pork, and get some hamburger buns and cole slaw......some red bbq sauce left in one bottle, and some of the yellow kind in another.....could mix them together for pulled pork......with some vinegar too.....real lazy feel to the morning so far......

beautiful morning.....tree-trimmers over on Washington were there all day Friday, they are back this morning.....looks like they are taking a large oak out altogether.....so chain saw and limb grinding noise continues....checking the bank online against my check book register, the bank had my balance $100 more then I did by hand.....the bank is correct of course, I went back a little ways and found my error.....sounds like the mail just came.....yesterday I got the natural gas bill, only sixteen bucks this time of year.....hard to believe it's another Saturday already.....time becomes strange in old age, to me anyway......Yankees at Angels tonight on TV......do they still do the Disneyland fireworks at nine?  That was a Summer bonus living in Santa Ana, in the old days......

cooler day so far

I was able to get the back yard grass cut earlier, in the 70s with some shade and breeze.....yesterday afternoon I had to run the AC for a while, was in the 90s and humid.....on the evening news storms were moving from north to south presenting a threat of lightning, wind and hail.....but it all missed Clinton somehow....I did see lightning South of here from out on the porch 8:30-9:00......for supper I had reheated stuffed pepper with black-eyed peas.....got to do something with that pork this evening I suppose.....still have sweet corn too....finished my library books, have something on kindle that's on loan from Prime......the monthly free book.....been watching the BBC original House of Cards, and have almost finished Wallander.....it gets dark so late, feels like there's a lot of evening to fill up with some kind of distraction.....

86 and 58 humidity

just got back from Walmart and the DMV.....at least at the DMV they knew what I was talking about with filing the eye exam....the folks at Family Eye had never heard of the 5 year eye requirement on a ten year license.....but they did fill out the correct form for me once they found one.....so I got some new stronger reading glasses, a pak of three for eight bucks.....the doctor yesterday said 2.50 or better would work fine for me.....I found 3.00.....I'll see how they work if I can figure out how to open the plastic thing they came in.....also got some Vision Formula pills.....with zinc, selenium, and copper.....what's good for the eyes is good for the brain is good for the body.....holistic.....had sirloin steak, french fries, and corn-on-the-cob last night.....I have some pork too, and more sirloin for more suppers.....lunch can be Bacon Spam, Swiss cheese, on marble rye.....grilled or not.....I have more Arizona green tea.....I might have to turn on the air before the day is over, for the humidity if not for the heat......

was 90 yesterday, predicted hotter today

I feel like I never really woke up this morning......oh well.....going grocery shopping when I work up the energy......lethargic muggy conditions.....swiss cheese and avocado omelette yesterday for supper, with a cold biscuit.....ads are for BBQ and grillin' things again.....'cause of Fathers' Day?   The news keeps calling it " the upcoming holiday weekend".....I suppose maybe it is.....

some rain went through at dawn

but it was sunny and bright by the time I went out the door ......so I didn't get rained on going for the paper like I did Monday.....going to be around 90 and muggy by the afternoon.....75 out now, 65 inside....Youth Camp starts today at the church across the street ......I could hear the activity director explaining the drill earlier.....they divide into age groups that alternate on Tuesdays and Thursdays going swimming at the Y, which is another camp sponsor......last year they played ball outside part of the day.....they have a big air-conditioned hall where they can get out of the heat later in the Summer....last night I had a microwaved stuffed pepper, plus biscuits topped with simmered black-eyed peas.....today I might make an avocado omelette.....got to remember coffee filters tomorrow at the store, and Arm-and-Hammer for the washing machine.....tomorrow at 2 I'll walk over to Musgrove and get an eye exam.....they will send the results to SCDMV, so I can drive legally for another 5 years.....hopefully I won't need to buy glasses, we'll see......

dang it

the power flickered and it took a few minutes to get the internet running again.....still unsettled weather in the region, expected to continue raining and thunderstorms on and off until a high pressure moves in Tuesday-Wednesday .......Sunday afternoon around four the tornado sirens went off, and the NWS on television was showing a thunderstorm cell with "some rotation" heading this way from down around Lake Greenwood.....by four-thirty the warning was cancelled as that cell fell apart.....a funnel cloud was reported  near the lake, but it never touched the ground.... no reports of damage.....but it did set a record for rain-for-the-date......automated rain gauges somewhere around here signaled 3" in 90 minutes......was some road flooding around Greer I guess.....but the rivers stayed within their banks as far as I've heard.....I went out on the front porch as the sirens were sounding, as did my neighbors on the block.....we allowed as how there's nothing you can do really, just wait and see if everything blows away or not.....if you are in a car or a trailer-home you are supposed to get inside a real house.....had tacos for supper after all that, watched a "Wallander" and then later found an ESPN radio feed on roku and listened to the Spurs game until the Heat got up by 30 points in the 4th quarter when I went on to bed.......damn, the lights flickered again.....

too wet to sweat

when the dew point and the temperature are the same number.....this morning 68 and 68....then sweat can't dry off you to cool you.....so by the time I got back with the Sunday paper my shirt was soaked, so I went and sat under a ceiling fan to read the paper.....at 8 am you could hear air-conditioning running already  in places......stay hydrated......60% chance of an afternoon thunderstorm.....around suppertime maybe, after the heat of the day has built up in the supersaturated atmosphere.....can have either more tacos or a stuffed pepper and something for supper.....should go with the tacos to use up lettuce and avocado before they turn funny.....frozen peppers will keep OK......had marbled rye french toast for breakfast, with two sausage links......lunch will be chili cheese dog I suppose.....the other afternoon I listened to Wrote a Song for Everyone album on MOG....a review of John Fogerty pointed out that CCR had made "Americana" popular long before anybody came up with that term.....another thing I read pointed out the synergy between internet radio and album sales......Wrote a Song was an editor's pick on MOG and Pandora, and went right to #3 on Billboard.....21st century exposure for a 60s powerhouse hit-maker......

high 80s called for this coming week

with a chance of more thunder showers in the afternoon hours......clouded over this morning, 70F and muggy.....most lakes are close to full pool, since we are running 5" above normal rainfall so far, instead of 5" below like during the recent drought years.....if you have a pond on your farm to store water for irrigation, check the level to make sure it's not about to overflow and break down the dirt dam and flood your neighbor.....advice from the morning paper.....I walked for the paper with my new hiking sandals on my feet....they are going to work fine I think, comfortable and can get a decent stride going with them on.....came Fed Ex yesterday from Louisville Kentucky.....tacos last night, with good avocado chopped up in the lettuce mix.....which includes red cabbage and carrot too.....in other words, a bagged salad mix.....got Arizona Green Tea with ginseng and honey on a special Friday supplementary shopping trip.....went mainly 'cause I was low on TP.....also got a generic can of chili no beans, and for lunch indulged in a pimento cheese chili dog.....radical.....supper Saturday can be a couple ribs, half a baked potato, and an ear of white corn that I picked up too.....it was raining too much Friday for the roadside fruit and veggie trucks to be out, so I just got store-bought corn from Florida.....

the tropical storm arrived in force......a deluge drumming on the roof.....nine hours later it is still raining.....periods of torrential downpours called for throughout the rest of the day.....but mill hill drains pretty well, we are on the high ground in town actually.....I'll make tacos tonight.....maybe with avocado if one is ripe by then.....with this weather I sort of feel like just going back to sleep.....probably take a nap after lunch again today.....too wet to walk or look at yard work.....

tropical storm Andrea

will mingle with a lingering cold front here tomorrow......so flash flood watch through Friday evening....sort of a warm misting drizzle on my early walk.....I'll check the radar before I go for another walk this morning......taco nite worked out well, but neither avocado was ripe enough to use.....maybe next time.....today I'll do a small thing of half ribs and a smallish potato in the iron skillet at 350 for an hour in the oven......other side can be black beans.....sounds like the mail truck is here.....Friday I will await the UPS, I ordered some summer sandals from Amazon.....Nevados like I had some years ago.....the Ozark Trail from Walmart don't hold up well.....two day delivery with Prime.....woke up with a crick in my neck....that doesn't happen very often.....musta "slept wrong".....rolling my head around right now there's popping and grinding noises.....watching the news last night I snacked on wheat thins with crunchy peanut butter and pimento cheese sandwiched between them.....a favorite....

was gonna try

to work on the front yard after getting back from the grocery store, but just as I went through the kitchen towards the back porch I saw that it was just starting to rain.....well, some other day I suppose.....went to the store with no list, so it was an unorganized expedition.....ended up with tacos and black beans.....ribs and potato.....stuffed peppers.....shoulda got more sweet corn, but maybe I can get some from one of those guys at the side of the road that grew it himself.....see how many ears you get for a dollar that way.....maybe it stopped raining already, but I've lost the mood for yard work this morning now......I'll go read the Clinton paper, eat my apple, then eat lunch later ......hot dogs this week with pimento cheese and stone-ground German mustard......

68F, dewpoint 68, 100% humidity......no sunshine, but still muggy......grocery ads are here, but I haven't looked through them yet.....been needing the ceiling fan on in the living room after supper in this sticky weather.....but haven't gone to fan on in the bedroom at night yet.....that will be needed later in the season I'm sure.....I guess I'm almost done with tuna sandwiches for lunch....that's cheap though....might go to canned roast beef tacos, something I used to do in days gone by.....that green leaf lettuce lasted almost two weeks without rusting very much.....was a buck fifty the head.....the little bit of breeze should keep it cooler for another walk shortly.....

lots of rain last night

between my supper and dark.....it was really dumping down, some thunder, but not much wind.....one tornado over in Anderson County damaged one house and knocked down some trees....no reports of injuries.....high humidity and mostly cloudy this morning, around 70.....chance of more rain again this afternoon, and every afternoon this week actually.....highs around 80 predicted....went over to Walmart earlier for a few things.....and walked around the park, ate an avocado and tuna salad sandwich with lettuce for lunch......tonight I'll have two chicken wings, black beans, and mac n cheese.....that will leave one chicken wing and one rib with the same sides for Tuesday, and Wednesday back to the grocery store.....

about like yesterday so far

72 inside and out.....overnight low of 70 ....I did see sparse lighting-bug activity between nine and ten PM......the storm front that caused all the trouble in the midwest is sliding away to the north and west of here, as the Upstate is protected by an area of high pressure.....but it still might rain some later I guess.....rib dinner last night was plenty filling.....reality boils down to molecules, then to atoms, then to sub-atomic particles.....then to quanta.....which are just information bits.....in binary code.....so we do actually live in the Matrix......the lights just dimmed briefly, that happens when the powerful energy-sucking AC units kick on at the church across the street.....don't know how many tons those things are rated at......you can hear them from the front porch.....I hope to leave my HVAC turned off altogether for a few more weeks, save on the electric bill.....

school's out for summer

does Alice Cooper still get royalties?  It was noisier than usual outside last night.....graduation night.....I put those chicken wings in Corning wear and doused them with apple cider vinegar and microwaved them covered for ten minutes, and then took the lid off and put on a mixture of BBQ sauce and soy sauce, and then put them under the broiler element in the oven for fifteen minutes.....worked great.....with a green salad and black beans....tonight will be a reprise of the rib platter.....that's a good avocado, tasty......overcast again and 100% humidity.....starting tonight and going on through Monday morning high chance of thunderstorms......normal temps called for....in the 80s in other words.....Clemson is calling for volunteers to do a lightning-bug count tonight .....there's an app for that.....I haven't seen any at all yet this year.....frogs and fireflies are disappearing .....they are doing counts to document this.....walking around the block in this weather will work up a sweat.....I'll go walk over through downtown shortly.....
