honeysuckle breeze runs riot

through the window over the kitchen sink.....I'm going to run MLB on the video, and the Pandora music machine on audio and kick back 'til around suppertime pretty much.....reading Sashenka by Simon Montefiore, so there's a contrast going on here between freezing Petrograd during WWI and 21st Century Dixie on a Spring day.....May Day in the morning.....with a rolled up piece of newspaper, I finally whacked that one fly that got into the living room somehow the other day......had grilled ham and cheddar on wheat for lunch.....scalloped potato supper will be effortless, just nuke it.....well, it's time for St.Louis vs. Atlanta.....Angels are doing good so far, Padres are sucking hind teat again.....

picture perfect dixie morning

clear, mild, not too windy.....very pleasant early morning walk.....maybe the second walk will be over into "downtown" instead of by the park.....just for a little variation.....been sleeping well the last few nights, good weather for it, not too hot, not too cold.....the evening news and two movies takes you from suppertime to bedtime around 10 pretty well, with maybe a little reading and radio mixed in there....well, net-music isn't exactly "radio", but you know what I mean....watched a pretty recent movie first, and then some strange japanese flick with subtitles.....the foreign movie selection on Netflix is pretty extensive, a break from Hollywood stuff anyway.....April is just about over.....the Cardinals and the Braves are on Fox this afternoon, so I might watch some of that, since Fox HD does come in on my antenna......

nothing much

going on.....cut the grass out front early when it was nice and cool.....thinking about going for a walk.....got the City bill today, that was the only mail.....watched a couple netflix movies last night after watching the news on a local channel.....and another channel has a 10 o'clock news, I watched a few minutes of that and then went to bed....the scalloped potatoes are delicious, plenty leftover....always leftovers ....oatmeal for breakfast today.....punched in a Charlie Musselwhite Radio on Pandora, that's playing right now, good music to play guitar to, was doing that a while ago......grilled salami and cheese for lunch, opened the new loaf of bread....whole wheat .....

Roku

I guess it isn't really "Rock-you", it's "Row-que".....whatever....I got back from my walk and the box had come in the mail, so I unplugged my Dish box and hooked up the Roku to my router and to my TV and stereo.....it works great.....clear picture and good sound....the computer works just as fast as usual with the streaming video running at the same time on the device...I wasn't sure how that would work.....it took about 45 minutes and six transfers between different voices to cancel the Dish bill and get that unbundled from AT&T-Bellsouth.....I haven't set up the Netflix yet, or explored all the stuff on Roku.....I just turned on a Bruce Lee flick from something called Crackle which is free and that's been running in the background as I wrestled with the voices....one had such a strange foreign accent that I just plain could not figure what she was saying....anyway, so now I am in the post satellite-cable era.....with local news over the air, and movies, TV shows, etc... on demand...

between three and four in the morning

the storm front passed through here.....they had taken away the tornado warning box on the radar map for Laurens County around 9 0'clock, before I went to bed, so I figured that Clinton was sort of in the clear in that regard.....power stayed on, didn't see much blown down on my newspaper walk.....starting to clear off some now, so I'll go walk the park in a bit.....one of the over-the-air stations I get on my new antenna is 21.2, a secondary digital feed which is NOAA.....radar map and official weather service advisements 24-7...kinda cool.....for a tornado alley area.....I think this afternoon I'll fix the escalloped potatoes with ham....I got a can of cream corn....for some reason I always used to serve cream corn with the ham and potato dish....because they were both yellow in color? Dang, it's just starting to rain a little.....have to re-evalueate the timing of the walking.....I'll check the radar.....

severe weather

the really bad looking storm system on the radar looks like it should slide north and east like they do most of the time......going along the western side of the mountains instead of actually coming due east to hit here.....we had one "pop-up" cloudburst around noon I guess it was, and it's gusty outside now, with clouds coming and going.....I'm going to go see if I can walk some.....I didn't need much at the grocery store today.....and I went to Radio Shack and got the Ethernet cable I'll use when my Roku box gets here.....the little TV antenna came in the mail today, and I stuck it up on top of the window shade on the west wall of the living room, and I'm picking up about six channels looks like.....enough to get the evening news and some sports....and PBS.....the stations that do come in in HD are really sharp looking.....better than Dish HD? Anyway, change is good......I guess....

clouded over, windy, muggy

looks like it should be cool out, but it's not....68 and 100% humidity.....half a chance of showers and thunderstorms from now through Thursday, lots of warm moist flow from the south interacting with a colder front from the west.....yesterday for supper I had a chicken leg quarter, baked beans with mustard sauce, and potato salad.....that's about the last of the potato salad.....it was "southern style" from the grocery deli.....where I used to shop in Escondido, the deli section had "egg and potato salad" that I liked to get....half egg salad and half potato salad.....haven't found that here.....maybe they have it over at Wal*Mart, they have a long deli case over there.....I should just go pay Allstate this morning, get it over with while I'm thinking about it, so I can stop thinking about it.....my TV antenna could possibly get here today ......it's "paper thin" they say, their demo video online shows somebody taping it to the wall above the TV and then hanging a picture over it, etc....I've got more framed prints out on the laundry porch I could use for that if that's going to work in my situation.....anyway, guess I could go walk the park......

cut the grass out back this morning

72, clouds, south wind....comfortable enough to get out and knock down the weeds.....and then pleasant sitting on the porch eating an apple....also went to get orange juice, since I used that up at breakfast.....also got a bag of ice and a .78 2 liter store brand ginger ale .....good and cheap....could have dropped off the auto insurance payment when I went by there, but I didn't think of that until I was already gone.....nothing in the mail but Charter Cable and BofA solicitations, but those are two outfits I don't want to have any dealings with.....more crazy basketball games yesterday, going down to the last seconds before being decided......tastes like perfectly good ginger ale to me.....

Sunday, April 24, 2011

some streching

in a hot shower....got my lower back to loosen up some, rubbed in more emu oil.....feels better.....changed into blue jean shorts and a loose white T-shirt, since the crazy weather has flip-flopped into summer-like again.....but I must have lost weight since last Summer 'cause the shorts just fall to the floor without a belt.....

Easter

nice looking day so far, sunny and mild......I'm low on orange juice, but can probably wait until Monday to go get some more.....though I think the grocery store is open regular hours today anyway.....stayed up late again watching real close basketball games end in upsets, pretty good stuff.....but I must have "slept wrong" somehow, because my back is bothering me some this morning.....or maybe slouching on the sofa watching TV too long has something to do with it.....I had an Easter breakfast of ham-scramble on buttered wheat toast, black coffee, O.J. .....hot dog lunch will continue....."a little cold supper" for later.....they are calling for a high of 86F late this afternoon......

Saturday, April 23, 2011

72, scattered clouds

been porch-sitting again, after it warmed up.....walked before lunch when it was still cool and damp-smelling, over around the mill park....they had an Easter Egg hunt across the street at the church in the morning, not as big as last year I don't think....not as many kids ......the City egg hunt was last week I think, at the college.....today looks more like proper Easter weekend weather than yesterday, which looked like Fall weather.....they are playing Earth Day weekend music on Deep Tracks, lots of nice tunes....hippie stuff? I'm going to go with cold bbq chicken leg quarter for supper I think, with potato salad and three-bean salad.....maybe ham-and-egg scramble with wheat toast and apple butter for Easter breakfast in the morning....Easter dinner will be cold ham and salads.....don't think I'll bother trying to devil any eggs....no chocolate bunnies or those strange gooey chick things in this house either.....

low clouds and fog

100% humidity, 52 degrees, moisture dripping off the eaves and trees......should clear off later today, and get to high-80's by Easter afternoon.....made red-eye ham gravy and rice and peas with the slow-cooked smoked butt yesterday.....falling off the bone tender, plenty of it to eat up.....watched Atlanta win their playoff game last night, up until almost 11 again, but slept OK.....saw a bit of the Lakers, but wasn't going to wait for that one to end.....watched the highlights of that online this morning on Yahoo Sports.....the cool-down of the last couple nights is due to the "cold-air wedge" that occurs when a flow comes down the coast from like Maine or somewhere and wedges up against the NC mountains and spills down into this area.....but the opposing flow from up off the Gulf should prevail over the rest of the weekend, flip-flopping our weather between winterish and summerish.....the Upstate is "betwixt and between" in more ways than one.....

Friday, April 22, 2011

nap after lunch

instead of a walk after lunch.....not much of a day to go outside.....mid-50's, blustery.....rain mostly gone to the east for now.....ham in a slow oven with ginger ale.....

rain, some thunder

drove to get the newspaper.....stayed up to 11 watching basketball, then didn't sleep all that well, since I'd messed with my routine? Going to be in the 60's today, rain and drizzle possible most of the day.....so it's a good day to go ahead and put the ham in the oven....6.65 lbs of smoked butt for $7.72 ......it's says it's hardwood smoked.....wouldn't want any of that damn softwood smoke, that's for sure.....I ordered a "leaf" indoor HDTV antenna, but Amazon was having issues yesterday so I got some kind of error message....but I guess the order finally went through.....it's a made in USA device, from North Carolina....then I'll get a Roku box and an XM tuner, pay $10 a month for the "mostly music" option from Sirius XM, and pay $8 a month for Netflix.....instead of the almost $70 a month I've been paying for 200 Dish channels, of which I only ever watch a half-dozen usually.....thus saving about $600 a year, or $6,000 over 10 years......I should Google oven time and temp for the ham.....

Thursday, April 21, 2011

custom guitar graphics

city and county offices

are closed tomorrow and Saturday, for Easter.....not that I need to do any business with them anyway.....trash pickup for Friday will be today, etc.....put the AT&T bill into my bill-payment program, with the gas company already in line on there....and probably by Monday I'll get the City bill, so that can be lined up.....and so on to the next month.....before May 6th I need to stop by Allstate and drop off a check for 6 months of car insurance.....you can do that easy enough online, but I sort of like to say hello to them....it's on the way to the grocery store anyway.....the clothes should be dry in a few minutes, so I can put them away and then go walk downtown, I think the rain is done for right now......I put pimento cheese spread and bbq sauce on my hot dog.....

a localized shower

is moving over Clinton right now....on the radar it isn't raining anywhere else around here.....was 68 and overcast on the early walk.....I had chicken and potato salad and the last of the cornbread for supper yesterday.....sat out on the front porch late, nice evening for that, nothing on TV.....finished one library book, started another one.....I should vacuum the carpet and do the laundry today......I think that frame shop a couple of blocks away had some palmetto-and-cresent decals last time I was in there.....I might walk over there later and see if I can find something to go on my new guitar......poached egg on wheat toast for breakfast, lunch will be a hot dog and potato chips.....

Wednesday, April 20, 2011

72, mostly cloudy

wnw wind at 9 mph.....with about half a chance of it blowing some thunderstorms here this afternoon....went grocery shopping, and they had such a good deal on butt hams that I went ahead and bought one, even though that's a lot of meat to use up......oh well, it will make sandwiches, ham-and-eggs with grits, lots of possibilities.....also got some chicken leg quarters, already bbqued, you just have to heat them up.....got some of those before, and one is enough meat for a supper....you get five for five bucks.....and I found three-bean salad in a can....didn't find any brown bread in a can.....got a good deal on olive oil, so I'm stocked up on that for a while.....spent more money than usual, but got a lot of stuff.....the Celtics-Knicks went down to the final seconds last night, a good game to watch.....the Lakers are on too late for me to watch tonight, I'll look at the highlights online after breakfast......I need to run the laundry one of these days I guess.....

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

7 in the evening

84F and clear.....but a cold front might be here tomorrow or the next day.....they say a high of 65 by Friday.....I want to look for three bean salad at the store.....can't you buy that in a jar? And I'm going to look for that Boston brown bread.....I might get wieners and buns for lunches.....get some hot dog relish, go hog wild.....the ad had Carolina Pride wieners for a buck a package.....watching Knicks-Celtics......

tuesday

I found some good books yesterday, at least they look pretty good....the one I started on first I read about half of already.....watched some basketball last night too, except the game turned into a blow-out, so I went back to reading the book.....tuna-and-peas on toast last night, delicious.....just paid the gas bill, and the electric and water meter reader just came by, as I was sitting out on the front porch admiring the job I did cutting the grass an hour or so ago.....perfect morning for yard work, no wind and not too hot yet.....might get up to 86 later......finished off the tortillas for lunch Monday, so today it will be back to grilled salami and cheese on wheat, with bbq potato chips, since I finished off those strange low-country boil flavored chips.....don't think I'll buy those again.....Wednesday grocery shopping I think I will get one of those DAK canned hams if they have them, and put it in the oven with ginger ale and raisins for Easter.....and then I can make scalloped potatoes and ham too......should make a list before I go to the store.....

Monday, April 18, 2011

get up to 80 today?

nice so far, in the 40's for the early walk, lots of sunshine......going over to the library, see if I can find anything interesting......don't think I need anything in particular at the store while I'm out, should be good on groceries until Wednesday just eating leftovers for supper, get the fridge cleaned out before I start putting more stuff in it......should I get one of those little hams for Easter? they sell deviled eggs already made......

Sunday, April 17, 2011

70, nice

the home teams in these playoffs aren't exactly coasting through the opening games......going to fix tacos and frijoles later.....had salami and pimento cheese sandwich with slaw for lunch....nutmeg french toast for breakfast.....need to take library books back in the morning Monday.......I think this warmer weather is supposed to last for a few days, before more rain comes in late in the week......

calm Sunday morning

that storm that killed 26 people across the country didn't do much to the Upstate, just some wind and rain.....and I think one tree down on a house.....the power glitched here for a second, just enough to click the surge protector.....watched some of the NBA playoffs yesterday, including Atlanta beating Orlando.....I don't like the Heat or the Magic, both those teams seem to have attitude problems......we'll see how the Lakers do this afternoon.....the anaerobic bacteria ate up the clogs in the sewer line, so it is free-flowing once again.....at least it seems so.....the sewer system around here is really old, and not designed with much fall from the house to the street, so shit happens.....

Saturday, April 16, 2011

storm in the morning

started raining around 4 I think......I checked the radar before I went to get the paper and decided to drive instead of walk....correct decision: just as I came out of the store "the clouds opened up" as they say.....expect some rain on and off all morning.....area under tornado watch until 1 pm......tuna and peas on toast was a good comfort food supper.....I put some parmesan-romono in the white sauce.....one can of tuna made enough for two meals, looks like.....one piece of cake left now......today I might fix pork-n-pintos over cornbread......with onion.....not raining at the moment, but the wind is picking up again, so I bet another little bit is on the way.......

Friday, April 15, 2011

70F, fair

though some cloudiness blowing in, 90% chance of rain tonight.....I got that fallen branch sawed up and dragged to the curb.....eyeballed the trees and the angle of the satellite dish again.....I either need to hire tree trimming done every year or so.....or just go with over the air local stations and streaming movies and whatever else you can get with some kind of online device......anyway, went for my walks.....and went over to True Value and got a bottle of anaerobic sewer line cleaner.....I have to do that once a year or so, if the line to the street starts backing up.....it's worked overnight the times I've used it before.....had a bean taco for lunch.....might do the tuna and peas on toast this evening....had some pork last night with cole slaw and a piece of bread-and-butter.....still slowly working through the birthday cake.....got a Guitar Player mag in the mail today.....going to fire up the new guitar shortly, for something to do......

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Junior model

loaded for delivery

that's what the UPS tracker on Amazon says about the guitar I ordered on my birthday from Musician's Friend....it shipped out of Kansas on the 12th.....so I'll have a new toy to play with sometime today.....and I've been doing Google research again this morning on the idea of dumping Dish TV and instead getting an XM radio to plug into my XM ready stereo, and then getting a Netflix device to stream via ethernet from my AT&T DSL......I figure I could save $40 a month that way.....I'd have to get a HD antenna for the local TV stations, but I found a post from a guy at the College who listed all the stations he gets over-the-air.....and I might give all that a try.....trees keep messing with my satellite reception, is another factor......warm and breezy this morning....took my walks, have pork in the crock pot with a doctored up bbq sauce blend.....got the front door open so I can watch for the UPS through the storm door.....

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

took a nap

played the radio, played some guitar, read some, sat out on the porch in the nice warm weather....so now I'm thinking ahead to supper.....I've got some frozen breaded fish.....and I mixed up some raisin slaw a while ago and put it in the fridge.....and I can fry some potato.....so a meat and two sides comes together easily enough.....tomorrow I'll put some country pork ribs in the crock pot with sauce and leave it all day to end up with a bunch of slow cooked pork, with is a versatile foodstuff.....can go in chile, tacos, sandwiches, etc.....or just eat with a fork with grits and some veggie.....

beautiful walking weather

was a little chilly still early on, but at mid-morning the park walk was very nice, sunny and not all that wind like we had for a few days.....did the grocery shopping already too.....going to make tuna-and-peas on toast some day, haven't had that in a long time.....and I got enough other stuff to last a week I guess.....should make cole slaw to use up cabbage sometime soon....should get to mid-70's this afternoon.....

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

wind continues

there was some blue sky for a while and I walked over by the mill, but with the wind blowing me around......and now it's blown another dead branch down in the backyard that I'll have to saw into pieces and take to the curb some time.....not today though, I'll wait until it's nicer out....I ate a piece of that chocolate cake for a snack in the middle of the afternoon.....as some of the cousins around here might say "the devil is in that cake".....hard to resist temptation.....nothing but junk mail today.....didn't see much inspiring in the grocery ads, though it does look like they have some good chicken deals this week, so maybe fried chicken and cole slaw, something like that.....and I can do something to eat up the rest of the tortillas and frijoles.....I had bean and cheese quesadillas last night, with a handful of olives.....didn't end up raining anymore, the wind has blown that over to the coast.....

dark clouds, windy, but not too cold

A storm must have gone through in the night, but it didn't wake me up.....on the radar it looked like it was still raining around Columbia.....it won't get as hot today as it did yesterday, unless this overcast blows off.....that German chocolate cake is rich and heavy.....it will take forever to eat that up.....but I guess it will keep for a long time in the fridge.....I probably gained a few pounds from all that eating yesterday.....I woke up thinking that I had forgotten to do something, but I can't remember what.....

Monday, April 11, 2011

Whiteford's Giant Burger

they do have a pretty big burger there.....altogether way too much food for lunch today, so now I feel like I could take a nap.....I did get a German chocolate cake while I was out too.....they had two-layer and single-layer.....I just got the single, and that should be enough cake for a week or more I imagine.....so now I've got a window open in the living room and the ceiling fan on .....comfortable.....I've got a library book to finish, but I think that if I started reading it would put me to sleep for sure, that's been happening lately.....

4/11/11

not as foggy this morning, it's already burned off, going to be warm today.....stayed 70 in the house overnight.....another front comes through after midnight tonight, with "numerous thunderstorms" for Tuesday.....can't think of anything much different from usual to do today, other than going out for lunch......it will be good porch-sitting weather anyway.....I guess I should walk the park before it actually gets hot out......was 64 on the newspaper walk......

Sunday, April 10, 2011

overcast burned off

in the middle of the afternoon, so it's mid-70's, don't know if it will really get to 80's or not....pleasant out anyway.....I thought maybe it was around 2, but looked at the clock and it was after 3.....thought about trying to watch some of the golf like I did Saturday....but, when you get down to it.....golf is boring.....so I've just been listening to the blues station mostly.....don't know what's for supper....maybe leftovers, or maybe an omelette or quesadilla?

late night light show

We had a brief heavy rainstorm pass over Clinton around supper time, and a heavier storm with thunder, lightning, hail, and tornado warnings kept going on north and east of here well into the night.....after 10 I was sitting out on the front porch with stars in the sky here, but with massive lightning going on due East and some miles away....couldn't hear the thunder, could just see the flashing in the distant clouds.....it went on for a long time, was still going on when I went in to go to sleep.....must have been over towards Union and Spartanburg.....this morning it's foggy and mid-50's, supposed to get into mid-80's later in the day......Sunday french toast breakfast.....and I'm thinking of birthday french toast breakfast tomorrow too, what the heck.....since I seem to remember that Jalisco is closed on Mondays, maybe my birthday treat meal could be lunch at Whiteford's with cheeseburger, onion rings, and a chocolate malt....I think they have onion rings....and maybe I can find German chocolate cake at the grocery store bakery, pigging out once a year can't be too bad.....last year I bought a pecan pie.....haven't had any sweets since Christmas....

Saturday, April 9, 2011

pretty sweaty walk

around the Mill Park.....after I got back from driving back roads through the woods over to Ora and back....saw lots of stuff in bloom out in the sticks, and lots of turkey running around, crossing the road in places....I had read in the local paper that there was a good turkey population this year, so they are allowing a longer hunt, or something like that.....

almost swampy

63, fog, 100% humidity on the sunrise walk....if you watch any of the Masters you can see our weather.....Augusta isn't far from here.....the hash-brown casserole is one of those things that seemed to get better reheated.....or maybe that's my imagination.....it was 70 in the kitchen at breakfast, after months of 50 seems like......Lee surrendered 4/9, Joan died 4/10, I was born 4/11, the twins 4/12,(also 4/12 the Civil War started) Caroline 4/13.....so a few busy days coming up.....I read a thing that said it was a man from Laurens who fired the first shot.....the cannon that fired on Fort Sumter.....they are having some kind of re-enactment Tuesday down in Charleston, with somebody from his family shooting off the cannon....it's all about tourism dollars? Last night on the front porch I could smell that night-blooming jasmine.....there's a bunch of that along the north fence.....I might drive out to Ora this morning......

Friday, April 8, 2011

it's been good weather

for the kids being out of school this week.....should be another mild day here, get up around 80.....some overcast now in the morning, and some chance of an afternoon thunderstorm or shower today and for the next few days......it was so nice on the front porch in the afternoon yesterday I just about fell asleep sitting up out there.....I saved a little bit of ham from last night to make a grilled ham and pimento cheese sandwich for lunch today, with some more of those strange potato chips.....this was an oatmeal for breakfast day.....supper will be hash-brown casserole, lima beans......got a good night's sleep, not too much in the way of aches and pains after doing yard work .....

Thursday, April 7, 2011

went ahead and cut the grass out back

well, the weeds anyway.....took maybe and hour and a half to slowly mow the back and side "lawns"....slowly is the only way I go anymore.....looks good, to me anyway......for lunch, a fried egg half-sandwich on a slice of wheat berry with honey bread spread with pimento cheese stuff.....delicious.....and I have a bag of "low country boil" flavor potato chips....I didn't know what that meant so I bought them.....a fairly large bag for 88 cents, couldn't go too far wrong.....what it means is "spicy", far as I can tell.....I have leftovers to work on for supper....the last of the ham-steak, mac-n-cheese, lima beans......and then it looks like alternating hash-brown casserole and fish tacos until next grocery day....except maybe for Monday, when I might go out for a birthday dinner....I want to try that hole-in-the-wall mexican place here in Clinton, the Jalisco (which around here is pronounced with a Jay, not an Haitch)..... Anyway, folks tell me that it's a good place, only open for dinner, has authentic margaritas.......it looks like they are having Bible School, or something, this week across the street at the church, since this is Spring Break for the local school kids I guess.....

50 and Fair

cool bright morning.....I may be running out of excuses for not getting out there and mowing down the weeds out back....they are getting pretty tall.....and it would constitute exercise I suppose.....I'll think about it a little more.....I had two fish tacos last night, no beans.....though I do have beans in the cupboard, just wasn't hungry enough to mess with them.....

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

pleasant today

61 now, might get up to 70? blue skies, gentle breezes.....went grocery shopping, and trimmed and mowed out front....leaving the back to another day.....while I was out I heard the two neighbor ladies talking.....the lady over the back fence was telling about their weekend.....Earl was having trouble with that dog getting out again....he had fixed the fence this side a while back, but now the dog, which isn't even his dog, it's his son's, but his son and his wife and kids live in an apartment so the pit bull bitch became this neighborhood's problem.....anyway....Earl was digging post holes to put up a higher fence, and hit the water-line.....so the City came out to fix the water line, and they hit the sewer line with the back-hoe......it's always somethin', I guess.....watched some strange French flick with subtitles last night......got stuff for fish tacos .....and they had pimento cheese spread two for one so I got some.....Dixie fish tacos?

Tuesday, April 5, 2011

thunder shook the house

after midnight.....lots of wind and rain and lightning ......they say this Spring storm killed six people across the South....Atlanta lost power.....tree debris on the streets and sidewalks this morning.....but it's gone off to the East , and today doesn't look too bad right now, but it's not going to be in the 80's like yesterday.....in the 60's I guess later today......I stayed up until 11:30 watching the NCAA basketball Final.....and then the storm was making too much of a racket to get to sleep for a couple of hours.....so I got off to a late start today....not that it makes any difference to anything in particular......I might try a hash-brown casserole today, I've got stuff for that.....

Monday, April 4, 2011

warmer, windy

66F with a 15mph SSW wind......I got out and trimmed the branches off the magnolia that were rubbing against the house and making a noise at night when it's windy....and it's been windy a lot lately.....should have done that a long time ago, but it's easy to be lazy....used the electric pole-saw.....and then decided that any more yard work could wait 'til another day.....the arthritis is already flaring up the last couple of days, and it would be foolish to aggravate it more really.....so I've used up the Frito pie suppers, but I still have ham for a couple of more meals, and I still have another casserole I could fix.....so maybe I can get by on Wednesday with a somewhat smaller shopping.....it might get to the 80's next weekend, so I need to think of lighter warm-weather meals.....the basketball tonight doesn't start until 9.....see if I make it all the way through that....saw two western movies from 1952 last night.....

Sunday, April 3, 2011

on the front porch

in the afternoon I could hear a rock and roll band playing over there a couple of blocks away at the bandstand by the train tracks in the center of town.....couldn't figure out what was going on....but then later I heard all the Harleys firing up and remembered that today there was a charity motorcycle ride going on here in Clinton.....

off to a slow start

messed up my sleep schedule staying up a little late watching basketball.....was awake at like 2 in the morning and not getting back to sleep....part of that being a pain in my right foot that flared up for some reason....a podiatrist once showed me on an X-ray that I had arthritis in that foot, but it hasn't bothered me much for the last few years.....can't think of what I did that would make it flare up right now....but that's what it feels like, joint pain.....oh well, it worked out some on my morning walk......nice morning, predicted high of 74 today......if it's nice again Monday morning I should consider cutting the grass.....if my foot isn't bothering me still? There was a strong west wind all day yesterday, and I think it blew a branch down off an old oak tree around the corner on Washington, because the City was out there with a big truck and the skip-loader.....I didn't actually go and see what they were doing, but that's what it sounded like was going on.....the wind hasn't kicked up again yet today, though they say it might later.....so right now while it's calm and sunny on the front porch I'm going to go out and eat an apple.....I think there's a Lakers game on sometime in the afternoon.....

Fatz Cafe

at 7:30 this morning for my pancake breakfast....with two sausage patties, fruit cup, and coffee.....Cindy was my waitress, and Edson bussed the table.....it wasn't very busy, but people who have done these things before were saying that around 9:30 it would probably be overflowing into the bar.....they had enough pre-sale to ensure a big crowd.....this was the fundraiser thing for Thornwell.....I didn't get more stacks of pancakes, the first stack was plenty, it was all I could eat....so now I'm back at the house and have read the morning paper and am thinking of going for a walk....it's looking nice outside, should get about ten or fifteen degrees warmer today than it was yesterday.....had leftover frito pie last night, and today I'm thinking of ham- steak with fried potatoes and baked beans.....Final Four on this evening.....NBA Friday Night had Hawks-Celtics......

nicer looking this morning

still chilly, but the sun is out and no rain is predicted.....should warm up .......last night I saw most of the Padre opener, which they won.....and later I was switching back and forth between the Dodgers-Giants and the Celtics-Spurs......I guess the Lakers still have a chance of finishing with the best record and getting home-court advantage.....I didn't stay awake to see how the late games came out, just read about them online after breakfast.....it said on the puzzle page in the newspaper that Jumble will no longer be carried after today.....but then I remembered.....April Fools!
